Join the Company That's Redefining Construction Software

Runding has been a market leader in construction technology for two decades. Our OpenBuild solution is transforming how specialty contractors operate.

While the construction software industry has spent decades selling disconnected, inflexible point solutions, OpenBuild is building the first open framework purpose-built for specialty contractors. From estimating to project management and job forecasting, our unified data foundation that enables specialty contractors to scale faster, operate smarter, and drive higher profitability.

We're experiencing exceptional market momentum as private equity-backed platform companies and some of North America's largest mechanical, plumbing and electrical contractors look to modernize their operations with better data structure and AI-ready processes. As consolidation and fast growth accelerates across the industry, OpenBuild is becoming the non-proprietary, open platform of choice for organizations seeking to standardize, simplify and streamline operations while leveraging the Microsoft tools they already know and trust.

This is not yesterday's typical construction SaaS sales role.

We're looking for someone who understands specialty contracting, speaks the language of construction operations, and wants to help build the company that's disrupting an industry.

If you've sold technology to specialty contractors, are familiar with trade contactor operations, have worked within a construction software company, or have firsthand experience inside a mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, or energy infrastructure, we'd like to talk.

About the Role

As a Business Development Manager, you'll help drive OpenBuild's rapid expansion throughout North America. You'll develop relationships with executive leadership at large MEP contractors and PE-backed platform companies, and large trade organizations while helping customers rethink how technology can transform their business using our open framework concept.

This role goes well beyond traditional software sales.

You'll become a trusted advisor to construction executives, helping them solve operational challenges around estimating, project execution, financial visibility, acquisitions, standardization, and AI-driven business intelligence.

While leveraging Runding's 2 decades in the construction industry, you'll play a key role in continuing to shape our go-to-market strategy, refine our sales process, influence product direction, and help build the next generation of our commercial organization.

There is significant opportunity for career growth as OpenBuild continues its rapid expansion.

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Build relationships with executive leadership across specialty and MEP contractors throughout the United States and Canada.
  • Conduct outbound prospecting through LinkedIn, email, phone, referrals, industry relationships, events, and other appropriate channel
  • Drive sales opportunities from prospecting through discovery and close.
  • Develop strategic relationships with private equity firms and portfolio companies pursuing roll-up and acquisition strategies.
  • Help contractors understand how OpenBuild modernizes operations by replacing disconnected legacy systems with a unified AI-ready framework.
  • Consult with customers on their operational challenges across estimating, operations, project management, finance, and business intelligence.
  • Position Runding as a partner that understands construction operations, not just a vendor selling software.
  • Collaborate closely with product, development and implementation teams to ensure long-term customer success.
  • Represent Runding and OpenBuild at industry conferences, customer events, and executive meetings.
  • Help shape sales methodology, messaging, and go-to-market strategy as we continue to scale.

What We're Looking For

  • 5 years of enterprise software sales, business development, or executive consulting experience within the construction industry.
  • Strong experience selling technology in the construction market AND/OR significant operational experience working for a specialty contractor - the best candidates have both.
  • Understanding of specialty trade contractor operations, including estimating, project management, field execution, finance, and business workflows.
  • Experience selling construction software, ERP, estimating platforms, project management software, field technology, or operational software is highly preferred.
  • Existing relationships within mechanical, electrical, plumbing, industrial, infrastructure, utility, fire protection, HVAC, or related specialty trades.

Highly Preferred

  • Experience selling into trade contractor or private equity-backed construction organizations.
  • Successful sales and business development track record with proven results.
  • Operational experience with specialty contractors.
  • Familiarity with construction ERP platforms, estimating software, project controls, scheduling, AI, analytics, or operational technology.
  • Understanding of digital transformation initiatives across the construction market.

Who You Are

  • You understand construction because you've lived it, not just read about it.
  • You are a hunter who creates momentum instead of waiting for leads
  • You enjoy solving business problems and driving a consultative sales process.
  • You're comfortable engaging CEOs, CFOs, COOs, Operations Leaders, Estimating Directors, and IT executives.
  • You are practical, direct and low drama.
  • You thrive in fast-growing companies where processes evolve quickly.
  • You enjoy building new markets rather than maintaining existing accounts.
  • You are curious, coachable, competitive, and driven by helping customers succeed.

Compensation

Compensation will be competitive, commensurate with experience and will include a base salary plus performance-based incentives or commission structure.

Work Environment

This is a senior, customer-facing role in a lean organization. The right candidate will be expected to work independently, create structure, communicate clearly, and collaborate closely with leadership and delivery teams.
