We are seeking a dedicated, student-centered, and empathetic Social Studies Long-Term Substitute Teacher to join our strong instructional team. The ideal candidate will be ready to help the students we are privileged to serve achieve great things.
Position Overview
- Deliver and help plan instruction using approved curriculum, high-impact instructional strategies, subject matter expertise, and current data to meet the needs of all students
- Establish clear expectations, routines, and procedures to foster a respectful, safe, and student-centered learning environment
- Engage students through a variety of instructional approaches that address diverse learning styles and goals
- Set ambitious goals; gather, analyze, and use data to measure progress, guide instruction, and provide timely feedback to students, families, and stakeholders
- Collaborate with colleagues to support overall school and district effectiveness
- Engage in ongoing professional reflection and growth to enhance instructional practice and student learning outcomes
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of relevant teaching experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Appropriate Maine DOE certification (or eligibility for certification)
- U.S. citizenship, residency, or valid work visa required
Anticipated Class Load:
- Introduction to Psychology
- Ancient Civilizations
- SMCC Introduction to Psychology (Dual Enrollment Course)

Terms of Employment:
Compensation and work year are established by the Board in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated in alignment with the Board of School Directors’ policy on Evaluation of Certified Staff Members (GCOA).
