Essential Technical Responsibilities
Perform multiple possible study duties listed as follow:
- Perform wind and solar electrical power plant interconnection studies at development, construction, and operation stages, including system planning models, system impact studies, stability, voltage ride through, frequency response, System Operators compliance studies such as CIP, TLP, MOD
- Perform electromagnetic transient study, insulation coordination study, and TOV study using PSCAD or EMTP-RV
- Perform other power system studies at both FEED stage and detailed design stage, including ampacity, grounding, reactive power, power flow, short circuit, arc flash, AC/DC, induced voltage, etc. by using ETAP, ASPEN, CYMCAP, SKM, PSSE, PSLF, WinIGS,
- Prepare accurate, clearly written, well-organized technical reports
- Interface technically with clients to provide conceptual study and technical input into the preliminary part of a project or for scoping purposes; optimize the study solutions and co-ordinate clients technical queries
- Act as the engineer of record for responsible projects; perform overall project quality control and provide QA/QC of all study reports
- Interface with internal and external team members including electrical engineers, electrical designers, drafters, discipline leads, project managers, and take ownership of the project to meet and exceed client expectations
- Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications
- Support development of standards, optimizations, and processes and provide execution plans with strong follow-through
- Provide oversight, guidance, and training to intermediate and junior engineers
- Assist with the preparation of project proposals
Qualifications
- Minimum of bachelors degree in electrical engineering, renewable engineering, or relevant field
- 7 years power system study experience in power delivery (transmission and distribution systems for utilities or industrial), renewable energy, or power generation
- Professional Engineering registration license or ability to obtain license
- Must be authorized for full-time work in the United States
- Experience as a senior power system study engineer
- Strong understanding of applicable industry codes and standards including the ANSI/IEEE, NESC, NEC, CSA, IEC, etc.
- Ability to work on multi-discipline projects
- Excellent time management and organization skills
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook with advanced MS Office skills
- Ability to organize, schedule, prioritize, and multi-task in a dynamic environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and make recommendations
- Ability to collaborate within a team environment
- Self-motivated and work with minimal guidance
- Ability to travel up to 10%
- Knowledge of renewable energy industry relating to utility scale wind and solar projects a plus
- Master's Degree in Engineering with renewable energy focus a plus
