What are the responsibilities and job description for the Proofreader - Direct Marketing position at RR Donnelley & Sons?
Supports time sensitive proofreading requests in a face-paced environment, demonstrating high attention to detail and a focus on client satisfaction.
- Proofread complex direct mail documents to ensure accuracy of variably changing content, spelling, dictation, syntax, punctuation, and grammar using the appropriate style (firm style, The Chicago Manual of Style, The Bluebook, and California Style Manual)
- Ensure consistency of written copy between components within a direct mail package
- Compare documents word for word against originals to ensure an accurate conversion
- Review cross-references, and defined terms for accuracy and review the Table of Authorities for accuracy and style
- Check handwritten revisions/electronic red lines against the working draft to ensure all corrections are made accurately
- Conduct separate checks for the format, text accuracy, and statistical data
- Ensure that the content of the document is accurate, clear, and complete and that the material is organized logically
- Use established proofreading marks to note corrections
- Follow established policies and procedures at all times
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Knowledge of various style guides (The Chicago Manual of Style, AP Style, The Blue Book, and California Style Manual)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including expert-level knowledge of the English language, grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Proven ability to work through complex legal document markups and instructions in a timely manner to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to prioritize various requests and deadlines simultaneously
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to interact with team members in a professional and respectful manner at all times.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet pressing deadlines
- Familiarity with legal terminology and a variety of citation and brief formants used in legal work preferred

The national pay range for this role is $37,500 to $61,000 / year. The pay range may be slightly lower or higher based on the geographic location of the hired employee. The actual pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
