Roy’zzz is seeking a detail-oriented and compliance-driven Accounting Specialist to support both payroll processing and accounting operations, with a strong focus on compliance in a highly regulated industry. This role is ideal for someone with a solid background in accounting who understands payroll fundamentals, regulatory reporting, and the nuances of business finance. You’ll play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, executing timely payroll, and ensuring adherence to tax and labor laws across multiple jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
This individual will be responsible for the following, including but not limited to:
Accounting Duties

Prepare and post journal entries related to payroll, benefits, and labor allocations.

Perform month-end and year-end closings, including reconciliations of payroll-related general ledger accounts.

Implement and maintain internal purchasing controls.

Monitor and forecast budgets.

Maintain organized and accurate documentation for audit readiness (e.g., payroll records, tax filings, supporting documentation).

Assist with AP/AR functions including invoice processing, coding, payment tracking, and customer collections.

Help maintain an accurate chart of accounts and class/department coding for financial reporting.

Collect and input inventory data for the accounting team to track.

Collaborate with the Director of Operations to develop financial forecasts and budgets.
Payroll Support & Labor Compliance

Assist the administrative coordinator as a backup for preparing and processing bi-weekly payroll using internal timekeeping and payroll systems.

Review and validate timesheets, including approved PTO, time off, or overtime, prior to payroll submission.

Maintain accurate records of payroll transactions and employee compensation data.

Ensure compliance with labor and tax laws in South Dakota and Minnesota, including industry-specific cannabis regulations.

Reconcile payroll liabilities and ensure accurate remittance of federal and state payroll taxes.
Requirements

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Proficiency in QuickBooks Online.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Strong understanding of GAAP principles and general ledger maintenance.

Ability to work independently.
Basic Qualifications

Must be 21 years of age or older (per South Dakota state law).

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Minimum 2 years of prior accounting experience.

Proficient in accounting and payroll software platforms.

Experience in the medical cannabis industry is highly desirable.

Experience in the health & wellness industry is highly desirable.
