A typical shift for Utility Steward may include the following responsibilities:

• Maintain the general cleanliness of the kitchen through performance of both general and specialized cleaning tasks. Tasks include but are not limited to: dishwashing utilizing a commercial dishwasher; washing pots and pans by hand; sweeping and mopping floors; deep cleaning floors with commercial cleaners; cleaning working surfaces and kitchen equipment; and transporting and restocking cooking ware for cooks to support food service.
• Perform other tasks as assigned to support food service operations, including buffet running and assistant cook functions.

The ideal candidate has strong working knowledge of commercial cleaning equipment and materials through a stewarding position, preferably in a hotel kitchen.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• The ability to speak, read and write proficiently in the English language.
• The ability to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• The ability to engage in considerable physical activity on a continuous basis including traversing and transporting items weighing up to 100 pounds.
• The ability to work in varied environments including heat and cold.
• The ability to effectively multi-task and maintain a productive pace, to support a high volume of food and beverage operations.
• Working knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling procedures.
• As a condition of employment, the candidate must be able to satisfy all pre-employment screenings, such as criminal background check, drug screening and personal and professional references.
