We have a current opening for a Vice President of Estimating for either our Sacramento, CA or Dallas, TX office.

Success in the position is achieved through the following duties & responsibilities:

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the preconstruction and operations to ensure competitive positioning, while ensuring the team delivers accurate high-quality cost solutions for electrical construction projects.
  • Oversee the estimating department, guiding the bid strategy, risk, resource allocation to support growth and profitability.
  • Structure the estimating and pre-construction department to adequately staff the estimating needs of the organization.
  • Create clarity of roles and responsibilities for team members and set goals with the team for project success
  • Ensure project teams are engaging with subs and vendors timely and constructively
  • Communicate subcontractor and vendor relationships with support operations and preconstruction/estimating that could affect future work or relationships
  • Coach and develop team members for successful accomplishment of their own key results. Create a culture of continuous improvement through learning and feedback
  • Develop growth plans for team members and anticipate future staffing needs for executing projected estimating and preconstruction needs
  • Promote collaboration and innovation at all levels
  • Stay informed about new code requirements, industry trends, regulations, and emerging opportunities within the electrical construction market.
  • Mentor future leaders and build succession pipelines within estimating and preconstruction

Strategic & Financial Leadership

  • Own and drive the overall estimating strategy, aligning the company growth targets, market positioning and long-term business objectives.
  • Partner with executive leadership to forecast backlog, revenue opportunities and margin performance driven by the preconstruction efforts
  • Establish and monitor KPI’s for estimating accuracy, hit rate margin and bid performance
  • Lead go/no-go decision-making process for pursuit based on risk, profitability and strategic alignment.
  • Ensure contractual, scope and design risks are clearly defined and communicated prior to hand off.

Process & Operational Excellence

  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients is the top priority in this role. Will address all client inquiries, concerns, and feedback in timely manner.  Will ensure transparency and client satisfaction throughout a project’s life cycle.
  • Ensure standards for estimate reviews, bid leveling, and executive approval
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives, with new technology, data analytics and AI tools.
  • Ensure seamless project turnover from preconstruction to operations, including scope clarity and client expectations
  • Serve as a key bridge between estimating, operations, business development and executive leadership

Market & Business Development Influence:  

  • Engage in industry associations and events to continuously identify potential subs and vendors with possible alignment with Royal on future work
  • Build relationships with clients. Identify current and potential clients and implement strategy for maintaining these relationships. Engage with clients throughout all phases of the project, identifying and meeting their needs, objectives and challenges
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and other subcontractors that positively impact alignment on a project procuring future work and collaborating through challenges
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients.

  • Set the tone for a high-performance, accountable and collaborative estimating culture

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, business management, marketing, communications, construction, or a related discipline or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • 15 years of proven successful construction experience in the field and office combined.  

Required Skills & Abilities

 

  • Experienced in construction management, field operations, and constructability.
  • Ability to help manage and build new client relationships and expand market opportunities across multiple segments.
  • A strong understanding of electrical systems, codes, regulations, and industry standards is essential for this position. Will need to provide technical guidance and ensure that electrical designs are complete and comply with applicable codes and safety requirements.
  • Proven track record of profitable and productive construction projects managed or overseen.  
  • Must have a good reputation in the construction industry as well as an ability to consistently build trust with customers and colleagues.
  • Strong business acumen, with an understanding of industry practices and new developments (construction process, delivery models, contract types)
  • Strong understanding of construction and design systems, building types, and costs
  • Understands construction terminology and ready grasp concepts and technical processes.
  • Understands differences between the public sector and private sector and the means and methods of pricing and installation of this work.
  • Has some knowledge of competitors' strengths and weaknesses as well as an understanding of unique aspects of market sector trends and influences.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to deal with people with an outward mindset. 

Safety & Physical Requirements

  • Act as a safety leader, by leading by example, complying with all safety standards and procedures, wearing proper PPE, driving conversation and participating in conversations surrounding alignment of Royals safety with clients, project, and field operations.
  • Sit, stand, and walk during the duration of the workday.
  • Will lift, carry, push, pull, kneel, crouch, and reach.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Salary Range:

  • $220,000/Year - $270,000/Year
    • This is an exempt position.
