The Shredder Operator 1 reports to the Packaging Manager is responsible for reclaiming coffee products designated as rework, returns, or line-offs and properly reintegrating them into the correct blends. SUMMARY:
The Shredder Operator 1 reports to the Packaging Manager is responsible for reclaiming coffee products designated as rework, returns, or line-offs and properly reintegrating them into the correct blends. This role involves operating shredding equipment, managing material flow, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- None.
- Collect rework, line-off, and return product from packaging and lab areas and transport to the designated shredding area in a timely and organized manner.
- Accurately estimate, weigh, and record collected materials, ensuring blend integrity is maintained.
- Sort and separate coffees by blend type, with strong knowledge of blend compatibility to ensure appropriate reintegration.
- Operate shredder and related equipment including floor scales, barrel dump, trash and cardboard compactors, Komar trash dumpsters, and forklift.
- Ensure reclaimed packaging materials are separated and returned to appropriate production areas.
- Maintain accurate and timely data entry in PC systems, recording coffee blend, source machine, and associated employee information for effective tracking.
- Pull and move barrels of coffee, bags, and pallets using lift equipment and pallet jacks.
- Dispose of all waste materials properly and maintain a clean, organized, and “tour-ready” shredding area per sanitation schedule.
- Maintain constant communication with roasting regarding shredded coffee and any necessary paperwork to support reintegration.
- Provide backup support for tea and green coffee dump operations as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work 40 hours a week which will mean 8 hours or more a day as needed to meet demand.
- The ability to learn to operate a standing lift truck safely and become a certified operator.
- Maintain a good attendance record, per company policy.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and independent judgment when verifying rework source and blend accuracy.
- Must have basic reasoning abilities, to include:
- Applying common sense in carrying out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability, beyond basic skill performance levels with Reading, Writing, Mathematical & Computer Functions, to include:
- Ability to read, write and interpret basic correspondence, including daily production line sheets, operator check off sheets, machine operating instructions, safety instructions and any training materials (including safety instructions for forklifts and hand jacks).
- Ability to understand the data line sheet system and fill out all appropriate paperwork.
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations: add, subtract and multiply using units of American currency and weight measurement, volume and distance.
- Basic inputs into computer via keyboard and bar code scans into computer system.
- Ability to successfully complete the pre-employment process.
- Prior experience with SAP.
- Any forklift certification.
- The ability to safely climb up and down ladders, stairs and into forklifts.
- The ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- The ability to use hand tools and fingering/handling to operate buttons/levers of equipment.
- The ability to push 10lbs of force and pull up to 100lbs of force.
- The ability to lift equipment or product up to 21lbs and with assistance up to 200lbs.
- The ability to shovel product up 10lbs per shovel full up to 48’’ high.
- The ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, squat and other movements as needed to retrieve products.
- The ability to reach up to 76’’ high and forward 30’’ to access equipment or product.
- The ability to carry product with assistance up to 150lbs.
- The ability to balance or walk on uneven surfaces.
