What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Attorney position at Routte Law, LLC.?
Probate & Estate Planning Attorney | Join Our Mission to Redefine Legal Practice
Who We Are
We're a small, elite team making a profound impact in Central Ohio. Every year, we serve thousands of families through some of their most vulnerable moments - navigating loss, planning futures, protecting legacies. We're not just processing legal documents. Our mission is to educate, empower, and shift our clients into the possibility of something more - for themselves, their families, and our community.
We operate by four core values (CARE) that guide everything we do:
· Create Calm in the chaos
· Act with Intention in every interaction
· Relationships built to last
· Excellence with easily implementable plans
We close for extended holidays. We are a close-knit team, who genuinely care about each other as people, not just colleagues. This isn't just a workplace to punch a time clock. It's a place where you become an integral part of something meaningful and thrive.
The Challenge
We're looking for someone with an ownership mindset who wants to make a real dent in the world. Someone who believes lawyers can be trusted advisors for life, not just hired guns for transactions. Someone who wants to change how the public sees our profession - one client relationship at a time. You'll be stepping into a practice with 100 active probate matters, building estate plans that protect families, and becoming a cornerstone of our team. This role offers unlimited earning potential for attorneys who bring energy, ownership, and excellence.
What You'll Do
· Manage probate administration from opening estates through final distributions
· Draft and file court documents throughout Ohio, but mostly in Franklin, Fairfield, Licking, and Delaware Counties (some with mandatory e-filing)
· Meet with clients and families navigating grief and complex family dynamics
· Create comprehensive estate plans
· Handle real estate closings and small business transactions (preferred but not required)
· Collaborate with our team to serve clients with excellence
What We're Looking For
· Minimum 2 years’ experience preferred (though we'll consider an exceptional person worth training)
· Probate experience or strong willingness to learn quickly
· Ability to hit the ground running with document drafting and court procedures
· Ownership mindset - someone who sees problems and solves them without hand-holding
· Emotional intelligence to serve grieving clients with compassion
· Real estate and small business transaction experience a plus
What You'll Be Part Of
Our team treats all attorneys as owners because you'll have ownership-level impact on our direction and success. You'll work alongside people who genuinely enjoy each other. We have fun. We support each other. We celebrate wins together.
Compensation & Benefits
We believe in rewarding production and impact:
· Base salary: $75,000 - $150,000 depending on experience
· Revenue share: Once you're regularly collecting $225,000 annually based on $75,000 base salary, we split revenues above your base salary with you in a tiered system founded on reasonable benchmarks. The sky's the limit.
· Benefits: Health, vision, dental, life insurance, and 401(k) with a match
· Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation plus 6 major holidays with extended closures
· Flexible schedule with some work-from-home options (though face-to-face work is common in estate planning and probate)
Location & Schedule
We're located in Gahanna. Most clients prefer face-to-face meetings, and with frequent signings and court appearances, you'll need to be in the office regularly. We offer flexibility, but this role requires someone comfortable with the commute or living nearby.
The Real Talk
We don't have unlimited time to train extensively right now. We need someone who can learn quickly, take initiative, and operate with minimal hand-holding. But if you're that person - someone with ownership DNA who wants to build something meaningful - you'll find a team that invests in you, celebrates your wins, and gives you room to grow into exactly the attorney you want to become.
We're not promising easy. We're promising purposeful, impactful work alongside people who genuinely care about each other and the families we serve.
To Apply
Send your resume and a brief note (not a formal cover letter - just tell us why this resonates) through really. Tell us:
· Why changing how people see lawyers matters to you
· What "lawyer for life" means in your practice
· One way you've demonstrated ownership mindset in your career
We're reviewing applications on a rolling basis and hoping to have someone start by early 2026.
P.S. If you're reading this and thinking "This sounds too good to be true" - we get it. But our departing attorney's daughter literally cried about not coming to the office anymore. That's the culture we've built. Come be part of it.
