The Grocery Merchandiser is an extension of the Store Support Office staff with the Center Store team. They are a partner and resource to store leaders in the Center Store departments ensuring company processes, policies and standards are effectively and consistently implemented. They regularly visit assigned stores to assess overall department performance including customer service, profit performance, programs, product presentation, inventory management, and team member scheduling. This individual is self-motivated and requires limited direction to achieve their objectives. The position reports to the Sr. Director of Center Store.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Core Accountabilities:
Evaluating Center Store departments using standardized checklists with a continuous improvement focus across customer service, sales, profitability, operations & merchandising.
Partner with Store and Department Managers to reinforce best practices, explain the "why" behind standards, and provide hands-on coaching and training
Analyze sales, labor, credits, and other performance levers to identify opportunities and recommend solutions
Collaborate with store leaders to establish improvement plans and track progress toward measurable goals
Support the rollout of new products, programs, and processes in partnership with Category Management and Merchandising Directors
Deliver exceptional customer service during store visits by modeling behaviors that reflect the company values
Other duties, as assigned by management
Operational Support & Compliance:
Ensure accurate and timely completion of required paperwork, price checks, and reporting
Participate in key program tools (e.g. GOT, pick List) to help stores execute effectively
Review and recap monthly inventory results; audit inventory procedures on-site as needed
Provide upward feedback to Category Management, Store Directors, District Managers, and Senior Leadership regarding store and departmental performance.
Engage with regional vendor operational support teams to hold our vendors accountable to the level of support needed to serve our stores and customers.
People Development:
Coach Department Manager son leadership strengths and opportunities to elevate team and department success.
Provide training and refresher support to team members as new initiatives are introduced or performance gaps identified
Recognize and reinforce positive performance and celebrate wins at the store and department levels
Qualifications:
3 Years in Retail Grocery, Center Store, or related Merchandising/Operations leadership experience
Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret sales, labor, and inventory data to drive decisions
Proven ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization – from front-line associates to senior leadership.
Proficiency with common retail systems such as web apps, Category Analyzer, BR Data & Microsoft Office Suite
Skilled at coaching and training others, with the ability to influence without direct authority
Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage priorities across multiple locations with limited supervision
Flexible schedule with the ability to travel frequently across assigned stores, with occasional overnight travel
Valid driver's license, auto insurance and reliable transportation
Ability to pass a criminal background check, driving history check and drug screen
Physical Requirements:
Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Able to drive for extended periods, as necessary to visit assigned store locations
Able to see products to determine PLU/UPC codes.
Able to stoop, squat, reach and maneuver to move product, boxes, bags, shelving, carts and equipment
Able to lift 50 lbs
Pay: From $58,000.00 per year
