Are you a ceramics or materials engineer ready to shape the future of aerospace component technology?
Our client is expanding its global R&D capability and is seeking a Ceramics Engineer to become the first technical hire in a newly established research and development department. This is a high-impact role with significant autonomy, hands-on work, and strong long-term growth as the team and facilities develop.
The Opportunity
You will lead the development, processing, and testing of advanced ceramic materials used in high-performance aerospace bearing applications. The initial phase involves travel to company facilities to learn products and processes, followed by increasing responsibility for establishing and scaling R&D operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize ceramic materials, compositions, and processing methods.
- Scale up manufacturing processes including sintering, hot pressing, extrusion, and casting.
- Conduct material characterization (SEM, XRD, TGA) and mechanical/thermal testing.
- Perform failure analysis and root-cause investigation.
- Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and customer-facing teams.
- Create technical reports, test documentation, and process instructions.
- Provide technical support and training to production teams and customers.
Candidate Profile
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- 2–5 years’ experience in ceramic materials development or manufacturing (internships acceptable for entry-level).
- Knowledge of ceramic processing and finishing techniques.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-changing, hands-on environment.
Preferred:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Ceramics/Materials.
- Aerospace manufacturing experience.
- Exposure to Lean or Six Sigma tools.
- Customer support experience.
Working Environment
- Combination of office, laboratory, and manufacturing floor settings.
- Independent role initially, transitioning into a growing R&D team.
- Domestic and international travel required.
