Hours: Up to 5.5 hours per day
Position Summary
The Part-Time Lunchroom Assistant / Paraprofessional supports the daily operations of the school cafeteria and assists with student supervision during meal service while also providing paraprofessional and clerical support as assigned. This position plays an important role in maintaining a safe, organized, and positive environment for students during lunch periods and throughout the school day. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, patience, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with students and staff in a fast-paced school environment.
Essential Functions
Lunchroom Supervision and Student Support
- Supervise students during assigned lunch periods from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Assist with maintaining an organized, safe, and positive cafeteria environment
- Monitor student behavior and reinforce school expectations and cafeteria rules
- Help students open food containers, condiment packets, milk cartons, and other lunch items as needed
- Assist with student flow through serving lines, seating areas, and dismissal procedures
- Encourage respectful behavior and appropriate voice levels during meal periods
- Collect trash and assist students with maintaining clean cafeteria tables and surrounding areas
- Monitor cafeteria walkways and seating areas to ensure cleanliness and safety
- Report student concerns, discipline issues, or safety concerns to administration promptly
Paraprofessional and Clerical Support
- Provide paraprofessional support in classrooms, intervention groups, or other assigned settings
- Assist teachers and staff with classroom preparation, organization, and clerical tasks
- Supervise students during transitions, arrival, dismissal, recess, or other assigned activities
- Support general school operations and campus supervision as needed
- Perform additional duties assigned by administration
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate’s degree preferred; or passing score on the Florida Paraprofessional Exam required
- Experience working with children preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in a busy school environment
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Successful completion of all required background screenings and compliance requirements

- Ability to supervise groups of elementary and/or middle school students effectively
- Ability to maintain order in a positive and respectful manner

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to bend, stoop, lift, and carry light to moderate materials as needed
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions
Employment Requirements
- Successful completion of a Level 2 background screening and drug screening is required prior to employment.
- All employees are screened through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Clearinghouse and must meet all applicable background screening requirements before beginning employment.
