High School Summer School ESL Math Teacher

(Credit recovery Math for language learners is usually Foundations, Math 1 or Math 2)

Program Dates

Mandatory training day for summer school staff on Friday, May 29th. Summer school is in session 6/01/2026-6/25/2026, Monday through Thursday.

Staff Hours

8:45 am - 1:15 pm

Hourly rate of pay

$52.75/hr - Summer School Teaching

$42.35 - Mandatory Training on May 29, 2026

  • Please note that only candidates who are available to work the entire program will be considered.

Licensure, certification, and other requirements

  • Illinois Professional Educator License with HS endorsements registered in Lake County
  • ESL endorsement or approval; bilingual endorsement or approval preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge about language development, communication theory, and first and second language acquisition, including literacy development.
  • ESL and bilingual education principles, including content instruction through English and/or a non-English language and cross-linguistic connections.
  • Structure of English and, when applicable, the partner language.
  • Cultural, social, political, and cognitive factors influencing language learning and student achievement.
  • Curriculum standards (including Illinois Learning Standards), assessment mandates, program models, and policies for ENL learners.
  • The relationship between bilingual proficiency, academic success, and life/career readiness.
  • Ability to understand the impact of disabilities, prior experiences, and diversity on learning for students from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Design inclusive, culturally responsive instruction aligned with standards, learning theory, and students’ linguistic and cultural assets.
  • Develop and adjust short- and long-range plans based on assessment data, language proficiency, and learner needs.
  • Use varied instructional strategies, materials, technology, and assessments to support content and language development in one or more languages.
  • Promote literacy, critical thinking, and knowledge construction across disciplines.
  • Apply students’ native language strategically to advance learning (bilingual settings).
  • Maintain professional standards, provide leadership, and collaborate effectively with diverse students, families, and colleagues.

  • Design and deliver culturally responsive, standards-based instruction integrating content learning, English proficiency, and bilingual development.
  • Create meaningful learning experiences that promote critical thinking, collaboration, cross-language transfer, and real-world application.
  • Establish high expectations and support students’ adaptation while affirming their cultural identities.
  • Evaluate and select inclusive, accurate, and appropriate instructional materials and resources.
  • Use formal and informal assessments to monitor progress, diagnose needs, and guide instruction.
  • Adapt teaching based on students’ language proficiency, prior knowledge, educational background, and exceptional needs.
  • Ensure proper identification, placement, and equitable services for ENL learners.
  • Build inclusive classroom communities that foster respect, motivation, collaboration, and shared responsibility.
  • Promote effective written, verbal, and visual communication in English and, when applicable, a partner language.
  • Use varied strategies to make content comprehensible, lower anxiety, and facilitate discussion.
  • Mediate cross-cultural conflict and model culturally responsive communication.
  • Foster strong home–school partnerships and empower families to advocate for their children.
  • Communicate educational goals and student progress clearly to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with professionals, agencies, and community organizations to support ENL learners.
  • Provide leadership and advocacy to improve programs, policies, and practices for ENL students.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning and contribute to the advancement of ENL education.
