Summary

About the Role:

At Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, safe and timely blood transfusion services are an essential part of patient care. As the Blood Bank Supervisor, you will lead the daily operations of our blood bank and donor center, helping ensure that patients have access to the blood products and laboratory services they need when they need them most.

In this leadership role, you'll oversee both technical and non-technical team members, support laboratory operations, and serve as a key resource for physicians, laboratory staff, and organizational leadership. Your expertise will help maintain the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance while supporting life-saving patient care.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced laboratory professional who enjoys leading teams, mentoring staff, and ensuring operational excellence in a complex healthcare environment.

The starting annual salary for this position is $91,298 and this can include a full comprehensive benefits package. There will be an additional assignment pay differential of $8,320 and an additional geographic differential of $4,580.

What You'll Do

Lead the day-to-day operations of the blood bank and donor center

Supervise and support technical and non-technical staff responsible for transfusion services

Coordinate activities related to blood product collection, processing, storage, testing, and distribution

Help ensure blood products are available to support patient treatment needs

Perform, monitor, and review laboratory testing procedures, including complex testing activities

Maintain high standards for quality, accuracy, and patient safety

Support compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements

Assist with staff training, development, scheduling, and performance management

Collaborate with physicians, laboratory leaders, and multidisciplinary care teams

Provide administrative and operational support to department leadership

Identify opportunities to improve processes, workflow efficiency, and service delivery

Help maintain a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

License Requirement

  • Possession of a full license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the State of New York; or
  • Eligibility for full licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the State of New York; or
  • Physician licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of New York.

Education and Experience

  • Doctorate degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in a clinical laboratory or blood bank; or
  • Master’s degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in a clinical laboratory or blood bank; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in a clinical laboratory or blood bank; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or laboratory science and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in a clinical laboratory or blood bank.

Notes

  • As a condition of continued employment, full license eligible incumbents must obtain and maintain the full Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure in the State of New York within six (6) months of their appointment to this title.
  • Possession of the Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure supersedes educational requirements listed above, as stated in section 58-1.5 (b) of the NYS Codes, Rules and Regulations.
  • The applicable clinical laboratory or blood bank experience must be from a clinical laboratory or blood bank as defined in Section 571 of the New York State Public Health Law.
  • Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
