Job Title: Director of Operations

Summary:

Oversee management to include all areas of operations and manufacturing…machine shop, fabrication,

assembly, quality, purchasing, inventory control, shipping and receiving. Directs and oversee daily

activities and ensures the manufacturing schedule is met with quality and within cost objectives.

Priorities include ability to initiate change, lean manufacturing, process improvement, problem resolution,

project management, employee training, as well as to advance the organization forward to accomplish the

overall company direction and vision.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop the manufacturing plan and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of
manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established company quality

standards.

  • Perform research, design and development of the manufacturing processes including production
flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
  • Direct the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of production standards.
  • Coordinate manufacturing launches of new/revised products to establish goals, training team
members, and evaluating results.
  • Demonstrated leadership techniques…ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Formulate and recommend manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in
maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
  • Direct and monitor department managers to accomplish goals of the manufacturing plan,
consistent with established manufacturing and safety procedures. Act as liaison between

department management/subordinate levels, as well as executive levels to inform personnel of

communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitude and

results.

  • Previous demonstrated ability to initiate change throughout a large department or several small
departments, including lean manufacturing, change management, and/or KAIZEN facilitated

training.

  • Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap.
Monitor scrap and rework data. Direct the establishment, implementation and maintenance of

production standards.

  • Coordinate manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training
team members, and evaluating results.
  • Assist company officers and senior staff members in the development and formulation of long-
and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives.
  • Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Ability to apply statistical methods and perform product/process analysis for cost reduction and
improve efficiency.
  • Direct and coordinate various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (training, safety,
housekeeping, cost reduction, employee involvement, security, etc.)
  • Initiate and coordinate major repair projects (plant layout changes, purchase and install of capital
equipment, major repairs, etc.)
  • Works effectively and relates well with others. Exhibits a professional manner in dealing with
others, working to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • Keep current on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and
to ensure compliance.
  • Must work effectively and relate well with others including superiors, colleagues and individuals
inside and outside of the organization.

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS in either industrial or manufacturing engineering, or a 4 year technical degree in related
field.
  • Knowledge of industrial engineering related major or an equivalent combination of education and
experience.
  • 10 years’ experience in manufacturing management, preferably in a process-oriented operation
or related industry. Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing a significant segment of a large

manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer.

  • Experience working with manufacturing-based technology and processes.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience of general manager experience in high precision, high tech, and
low tolerance machining manufacturing environments.
  • Management of and daily supervision of a team of managers, supervisors, and support personnel.
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with company standards for cost control, waste reduction,
quality OSHA regulations, safety standards, complete and on-time delivery at the lowest possible

cost.
