About the Carnegie Museum

Located in the heart of downtown Roseville, the historic Carnegie Museum is dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and celebrating the rich history of Roseville and the surrounding region. Housed in a beautifully restored Carnegie Library building, the museum offers exhibits, archives, and programs that connect the community with its cultural heritage.

Position Overview

The Carnegie Museum is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and detail-oriented Museum Administrator to oversee daily operations, curate exhibits, manage archives, and ensure the long-term sustainability and success of the museum. This position offers the opportunity to help shape the direction of one of Roseville’s most treasured cultural institutions.

The Museum Administrator is a part-time, in-person position at the Carnegie Museum in Roseville with standard administrative duties such as opening and closing the museum, responding to emails and phone calls, maintaining reports such as visitors list, memberships and assisting in planning events, archive management and exhibit curation. They will be expected to maintain the safety and preservation of our exhibits, a welcoming reception and a well displayed gift shop for which they will be responsible for restocking. Their role will include training of new volunteers/docents and ensuring adequate museum coverage at all times. All tours, programs, or meetings will be booked and scheduled by the Museum Administrator and appropriate fees collected. They are responsible for attending monthly Board Meetings and submitting a Monthly Administration Report.

Tuesday through Friday, 12-4pm.

In person at the Carnegie Museum in Roseville, CA.

Essential Job Functions

- Open and close museum on time

- Correspondence - manage emails, phone messages and mail

- Membership - keep updated list, email contacts, and volunteers

-Technology - maintain online presence 2-3 times per week using social media

-Bookkeeping tasks - maintain spreadsheet for visitors, gift store

inventory, and invoices to city quarterly

-Grants - pursue and write grants

-Newsletter - create and edit quarterly newsletter for members

-Docents - attract, retain and manage volunteers

-Community Outreach - discover new opportunities to serve the public through partnerships, events and networking

-General archive management, accessioning/deaccessioning

-Exhibit curation

-Report - submit museum monthly report to board meeting

Desired Skills/Knowledge

-Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Art History, Library Science, or related field

-Passion for history, education, and community engagement

-Experience in office administration (grant writing, general fundraising, non-profit experience preferred, not required)

-Archive/curatorial experience preferred

-Knowledge of museum operations and best practices

-Professional Discourse - email/phone etiquette

-Customer Service

-Tech Savvy

-Proficiency in Google Drive (Documents, Sheets, Forms)

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience working in a small or mid-sized museum setting

-Familiarity with California and/or Roseville history

-Grant writing and fundraising experience

-Knowledge of preservation techniques and archival standards
