Summary:
Provide leadership as a strategic partner in the realization of company goals. Manages the metal finishing manufacturing activities to ensure both employee and environmental safety, while responsibly meeting and/or exceeding product requirements for quality, quantity, and timely delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Production & Personnel Supervision
- Ensures that production levels are maximized and are meeting established targets without sacrificing product quality;
- Ensures that working team leads are effectively meeting Rosenboom’s product quality and production standards, safe work practices, and policies and expectations specific to employee conduct;
- Develops visual manufacturing boards or other similar techniques to broadcast close-to real time plant productivity in an effort to quickly address production problems as they occur;
- Conducts daily/weekly working team lead meetings to review outstanding safety, quality, productivity and any other relevant concerns. Ensure the Director of Metal Finishing (DMF) is kept informed of these concerns;
- Liaises with the metal finishing department’s production coordinator regarding production schedule optimization within the context of productivity and on-time delivery;
- Maintains proper shift staffing levels to ensure product quality and quantity levels;
- Works with the Director of Metal Finishing and a human resources representative regarding all matters related to the hiring, promotion, and/or dismissal of metal finishing department personnel; and,
- Is responsible for completing the scheduled performance appraisals of direct reports and holding performance appraisal conferences in a timely manner. Coordinates direct reports’ wage/salary increases with the Director of Metal Finishing and an authorized representative of human resources.
Process & Product Quality Assurance
- Liaises (dotted line reporting) with the assigned QA Technician regarding product and process quality concerns. The quality assurance technician ensures that proper gauge calibrations are maintained, bath chemistries are checked and maintained within standards, and that the NSS testing cabinet is operating and actively testing product;
- Leads a coordinated effort to establish and enforce internal quality controls and advise appropriate personnel of quality assurance concerns;
- Actively ensures that Manufacturing is receiving timely feedback from Rosenboom’s three internal customers (Sheldon, Spirit Lake, and Ohio plants) regarding outstanding customer quality concerns, and that corrective actions are fully implemented and personnel are trained to prevent a future occurrence; Monitors and/or reviews information specific to environmental issues to detect, assess, or correct potential problems; and,
- Assists Rosenboom’s Corporate Quality Manager where necessary in the development, implementation and maintenance of an ISO-9000 2K certified quality program for the metal finishing operation ensuring that the system thrives, operating personnel are adequately trained and performing to standard, and that corrective actions and opportunities for improvement are completed in a timely manner.
Business Improvement
- Works with the Director of Metal Finishing and other Rosenboom leadership personnel to ensure that the metal finishing operation is actively participating in Rosenboom’s various business improvement activities/programs, including but not limited to Wildly Important Goals (WIGs), Lasting Improvements From Teamwork (LIFT), Total Productive Asset Management (TPAM), Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM), and Continuous Improvement (CI).
- Actively identifies areas for improvement (processes, product, etc.) and works with the Director of Metal Manufacturing and Rosenboom’s CI group to evaluate such opportunities and implement improvement measures where appropriate;
- Works with other departments and managers to ensure that employees receive proper training, that strategic management is being carried out according to company’s goals and objectives, and meets other objectives as they arise;
- Is a strategic partner in the development, implementation and/or application of policy and procedure related to human resource management; and,
- Continuously researches and investigates potential new industry process and product advancements.
Education and/or Experience:
- Education and/or experience relative to the responsibilities of this position.
Competencies:
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources;
- Knowledge of shop math and its applications;
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods;
- Understanding of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders;
- Communicates (speaks, understands and writes using acceptable format and sentence and paragraph structure in English;
- Demonstrates ability to communicate orally in a clear and positive manner; and,
- Demonstrates ability to generate and maintain accurate and concise written records.
