About the Position
The Design Engineer will conduct concept, detail, assembly and production designs, design calculations and analysis. This position works with colleagues and customers to overcome technical challenges and develop practical and innovative mechanical designs, using ProE 3D CAD for the design and development of products, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work on new projects from a given specification and/or product improvements to generate detail drawings and BOMs ensuring they are to agreed standards and within specification.
- Generate comprehensive component specifications.
- Re-designing existing products and new designs to reduce product costs by re-designing existing designs to increase profitability including designing new components and/or assembly processes.
- Undertake and record calculations on studies to validate the design.
- Issue clear and comprehensive instructions for quality and production.
- Work with Manufacturing Engineering in assembling prototypes.
- Work with Test Technicians in developing test procedures and or fixtures, ensuring effective records are instigated and maintained.
- Tooling and jig design for production when requested.
- Troubleshoot production engineering problems when requested.
- Amend incorrect engineering drawings and BOM’s using EC’s (Engineering Change) when required.
- Collaborate fully with Manufacturing Engineering on new launch product.
- Construct 3D designs and drawings applying drafting principles via the use of CAD.
- Ensure that all products are designed in accordance with customer requirements, company practice and recognized engineering standards.
- Improve product design methods and procedures.
- Maintain regular, predictable attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Previous experience in a Design Engineer role.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent analytical and creative thinking, hands-on troubleshooting skills.
- Able to handle tight deadlines, multiple projects and quick changes of priorities.
- Must have experience systematizing process flows for improved efficiency.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Must be conscientious and detail minded.
- Must be able to work in fast paced, quick changing atmosphere.
- Resourceful and self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Effectively communicate and interpret complex technical challenges to all levels of our organization.
- Strong computer skills and technical mindset.
- Understand and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Accurate and detail oriented, quality and budget conscious.
- Team player, but also able to work individually.
