Job Description
The Dental Hygienist will provide dental care according to Nevada State Dental Hygiene rules and regulations defined by the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners to the patients of the College of Dental Medicine (CODM). Additionally, will work with dental Faculty to instruct and educate dental residents in developing skills and modalities to promote oral health and well-being, assess patient oral health status, and effectively perform non-surgical periodontal therapy in the Clinical Setting as assigned by the AEGD Program Director.

The Dental Hygienist will provide dental care according to Nevada State Dental Hygiene rules and regulations defined by the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners to the patients of the College of Dental Medicine (CODM). Additionally, will work with dental Faculty to instruct and educate dental residents in developing skills and modalities to promote oral health and well-being, assess patient oral health status, and effectively perform non-surgical periodontal therapy in the Clinical Setting as assigned by the AEGD Program Director.
Essential Functions
- Provide direct patient care.
- Assist with AEGD Program Director with clinical teaching as appropriate.
- Assist the AEGD Program Director and Faculty in:
- Providing didactic training and clinical instruction in assessing proper patient hygiene of patients of the College of Dental Medicine (CODM)
- Scaling, root planning, prophy’s, patient exams and recall evaluations.
- Evaluating response to non-surgical therapy
- Implementing and monitoring a patient recall system.
- Complete Resident Evaluation as requested.
- Follow the AEGD Program Director’s instructions regarding documentation, data collection, and clinical protocols.
- Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in patient care, documentation, and record keeping.
- Understand and apply current guidelines in periodontal diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Maintain instruments for non-surgical periodontal therapy, including routine sharpening and identifying when tools are damaged or need replacement.
- Audit patient records regularly to identify individuals overdue for recall exams or hygiene appointments.
- Collaborate with the front office to assist in scheduling patients due for appointments.
- Maintain appropriate equipment to ensure optimal clinical care, such as magnification loupes and headlamps.
- Perform oral cancer screenings at each patient encounter.
- Capture 2D and 3D diagnostic images, including panoramic x-rays, full-mouth series (FMX), intraoral photos, and iTero scanning to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Assist residents and faculty with documentation of findings, conditions, and treatment planning in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Apply sealants as needed for preventive care.
- Provide care to pediatric patients
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
- Certificate in Dental Hygiene from an accredited US or Canadian school.
- Eligible for licensure in Nevada at the time of application.
