Rosebud Preschool is seeking a dedicated and compassionate full-time Floating Classroom Assistant to support our Preschool and Toddler classrooms. Nestled in the heart of Rose Villa Senior Living Community, Rosebud Preschool fosters intergenerational connections that enrich the lives of both young children and older residents.
The Floating Classroom Assistant will play a vital role in maintaining the smooth operation of our classrooms by assisting during teacher breaks, stepping in as a substitute when needed, and supporting daily classroom activities. This position involves meeting the physical care needs of children while contributing to a warm and nurturing learning environment.
Position Title: Floating Classroom Assistant (Aide II)
Position Overview: The Floating Classroom Assistant is a dynamic and flexible role that provides support across both classrooms in the preschool. This position ensures the smooth operation of daily activities by assisting lead teachers and classroom assistants with breaks, snack preparation, cleanup, and general childcare tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Classroom Support:
- Assist in both classrooms throughout the day as needed.
- Provide general help with children, ensuring their safety, engagement, and well-being.
- Step in to cover teacher breaks and absences, maintaining classroom routines and schedules.
2. Snack Preparation & Cleanup:
- Help prepare, distribute, and monitor snack times in coordination with teachers.
- Ensure proper cleanup of snack areas, maintaining health and safety standards.
3. Cleanup & Organization:
- Assist with daily tidying of classrooms.
- Support with maintaining a tidy and inviting learning environment.
4. Flexibility & Collaboration:
- Adapt quickly to changing schedules or classroom needs.
- Communicate effectively with teachers and staff to provide seamless support.
- Assist during transitions, such as drop-off, pick-up, or outdoor playtime.
5. Child Interaction:
- Engage with children during play, group activities, and quiet times.
- Model appropriate behavior and foster a nurturing, inclusive environment.
Education and experience requirements:
- Enrollment in the Central Background Registry (CBR) CBR database
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background check.
- A minimum of two years prior experience in childcare OR Must meet Oregon state requirements to qualify as Teacher Aide II
- Current First Aid & CPR (infant & child) certificate
- Current Oregon Food Handler’s card
- Oregon Registry Online (ORO) account
- Completion & certificates for the following required trainings:
- Recognizing and Reporting Childhood Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN),
- Introduction to Childcare Health and Safety
- Prevention is Better Than Treatment
- Foundations for Learning
- Safe Sleeping for Oregon’s Infants
- Strong communication skills
- A nurturing and patient demeanor
- Interest in working with older adults as well as children
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Frequent bending, squatting, and sitting on the floor to engage with children.
- Ability to move quickly between classrooms as needed.
Wage and benefits:
- Starting wage is $20 - $22 per hour depending on experience.
- This is a full time, 40 hours a week, non-exempt position.
