Cost Accountant
Salary range: $64,000 – $85,000
PURPOSE/FUNCTION/SUMMARY (TRAINING NEEDS)
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our manufacturing team. The Cost Accountant will work across teams to oversee inventory and job costing, analyze and assist on purchasing, while supporting the accounting team in financial reporting in a growing, multi-location manufacturing organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Analyze and monitor manufacturing cost expenditures, raw material purchases, labor, and overhead within the organization
- Review existing purchases, record data, and recommend new cost-efficient, financially feasible cost options
- Develop and maintain cost accounting system, documentation, and records
- Review costs for all external inventory, production labor, and material purchases
- Conduct variance analysis (material, labor, overhead) and report findings
- Perform internal cost audits
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes related to cost accounting
- Assist in the development of cost estimates for new products
- Prepare and review Generally Acceptable Accounting Practices (GAAP) financial reporting
- Compile documentation on standard costs and company production costs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with an emphasis on cost accounting a plus
- At least two years of previous accounting experience working with Standard Cost Inventory systems in a manufacturing environment
- Previous managerial experience is a plus
- Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and GAAP reporting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detailed oriented
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently within a team environment
