Required:
1. Experience as an academic decathloninstructor/participant (high school or college).
2. Valid driver’s license.

1. Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field.
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Academic Decathlon Coach is assigned the task of preparing team members for multiple choice tests in science, math, economics, social science, literature, art and music. Team members must also be prepared to compete in the essay, speech, and interview categories. Coaches are expected to present materials, practice exams and to conduct discussions and presentations during weekly practice sessions. Academic Decathlon team members need to be prepared for testing in multiple subject areas that correlate with a major theme. The theme changes yearly. Practices can begin as early as May (if materials are available) and run through January of the following academic school year. State qualifiers will extend their season into March.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Conduct regular weekly practices.
2. Submit annual activity plan to activities office by October 1st. Submission of plan will be required before the initial stipend payment is paid. (Activity plan templates will be available)
3. Attend all competitions with the team members.
4. Actively recruit new members.
5. Communicate with staff about competition dates and times.
6. Be available to team members in need of additional assistance.
7. Ensure that team members are eligible for participation.
8. Adhere by the rules set by DMPS and the United States Academic Decathlon Team organization. 6. Attend district-wide meetings as requested.
9. Submit reports (with student evidence) and activity checklists to building and district administration as requested.
10. Attend district-wide meetings as requested.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):
1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
2. Maintain confidentiality.
3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
