TITLE: HS Jazz Band Director

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
1. Bachelor of Music Education
2. Experience with a secondary school jazz ensemble. Student teaching experience is acceptable.
3. Working knowledge of all instruments used in a traditional jazz ensemble.
Desired:
1. Experience conducting a secondary school jazz ensemble.
2. Knowledge of jazz and improvisation pedagogy.
3. Ability to demonstrate all instruments in the ensemble as needed.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Conduct and administer performances and rehearsals of a high school jazz band.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Conduct a minimum of three jazz band concerts during the school year and other applicable events.
2. Support and attend all district high school jazz events.
3. Attend and participate in contests, festivals, and other events as designated by curriculum coordinator.
4. Organize transportation for events as necessary.
5. Acquire concert space and necessary performance resources (mics, chairs, stands, etc.).
6. Submit concert dates to curriculum coordinator for approval in coordination with building administration. October 15th is the submission deadline.
7. Submit reports and activity checklists to building and district administration as requested.
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):
1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
2. Maintain confidentiality.
3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
