Build the department, write the standards, and hire your own inspectors.
You know how it usually goes. Quality lands on a superintendent on top of everything else, and nobody truly owns it until a GC starts asking questions.
This is a brand-new senior role with a privately owned commercial roofing platform that has grown from $15M to around $150M, with a credible run at $1B.
Their national clients now demand designated quality personnel on site, and right now that means paying third-party consultants. You replace that with something permanent.
The work is worth doing properly: data centers, pharmaceutical and healthcare facilities, cold storage, manufacturing, distribution centers, schools and national retail. New construction $1M-$10M, reroofs $100K-$1M.
Travel is heavy at the start, then eases as your inspectors take the load and you move into department leadership.

Your Role
- Set company-wide standards, checklists, inspection protocols and reporting
- Write project-specific quality plans for major jobs
- Inspect before, during and after install: substrate prep, insulation, membrane, details, penetrations, flashings
- Verify every layer against specifications, manufacturer requirements and client standards
- Drive corrective action before small defects become claims
- Dispatch inspectors nationally and cover job starts, milestones and closeouts with Project Directors, PMs and superintendents
- Recruit, train and manage your inspection team
Company Overview
Privately owned with no PE exit pressure. Around 450 people across a Phoenix headquarters, a Las Vegas union operation and field teams nationwide.
Delivery runs through pods: Project Director, Project Manager, Coordinator, Finance and Engineering support. Predominantly commercial, roughly 70% new construction and 30% reroof, with strong single-ply and multi-layer low-slope work.
Key Requirements
- 5 years commercial roofing experience
- Formal QA/QC experience strongly preferred (some clients require a defined number of years in quality); strong field supervision backgrounds moving into quality full time will be considered
- Confident reading specs and approved assemblies, and inspecting every layer against them
- Direct enough to hold the line with major general contractors
- Phoenix-based or relocating, and willing to travel heavily early on
