What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Specialist position at Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse?
SUMMARY: Performs functions relating to the processing and reporting of lay, religious, and clergy payroll information for the Diocese of Syracuse. This position is 40 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Preparation of the bi-weekly payroll for lay, religious and clergy using the ADP payroll products. This includes gathering and verifying bi-weekly timesheets, keying payroll maintenance, new hires, preparing pay checks for distribution, processing direct deposits, garnishments, and other withholdings.
- Ability to analyze payroll data, generate insights and maintain accurate records.
- Verifies all payroll withholding and health related deductions.
- Provide quarterly verification for Wage & Tax in addition to quarterly Workers Compensation.
- Completes payroll information for New York State Disability and Workers Compensation forms.
- Performs all year end processes and verifications to produce and distribute accurate W-2 forms.
- Provides employee salary data for annual budget forecasting.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
- Work with locations utilizing ADP’s Time & Attendance product.
- Provides excellent customer service to diocesan parishes and schools including regular communication, timely follow-up and resolution for inquiries.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Associates Degree in Accounting or equivalent from a two-year college; three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now system including report writing. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word. Experience working with HR system helpful.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, confidentiality, good communication skills, problem solving and time management.
Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
