Job description:


The Maintenance Technician troubleshoots, repairs and performs preventative maintenance on the automated machinery used to transform raw paper into products like tissues and paper towels. This requires expertise in electrical and mechanical systems, including motors, pumps, conveyors, rewinders, packaging equipment, to ensure equipment runs reliably and minimizes downtime. Performs repairs and troubleshoots, installs, dismantles, and repairs machinery and equipment to improve reliability and uptime.

Primary Accountabilities and Deliverables


Daily Responsibilities

  • Assist machine operators troubleshoot failed equipment, perform quality checks and diagnose, adjust, or repair machinery.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance by regular inspections and planned maintenance.
  • Identify and prioritize maintenance needs of production lines.
  • Review manufacturing lines and production output to optimize efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and repair roller and belt systems.
  • Work on conveyors, pumps, motors, liquid tank systems, piping, compressed air, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Troubleshoot wrappers, inkjet machines, and forklifts.
  • Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Follow Safety and Operations Procedures.
  • Manage work orders using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).


Communications

  • Communicate with supervisors and operators to identify maintenance issues.
  • Effectively communicate with team members.


Customer Service/Quality

  • Maintain company’s standards of service through quality and timely repairs.
  • Perform frequent inspections at critical points of machine lines.
  • Control repair costs through proactive inspections.


Technical

  • Repair electrical and mechanical systems per manuals, drawings, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues.
  • Troubleshoot conveyors and set ups.
  • Experience with packaging and palletizing equipment.


Safety

  • Follow company safety policies and use safety devices.
  • Keep machines and areas clean and orderly.


Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prefer additional technical, electrical, and/or mechanical training.
  • 5 years of manufacturing maintenance machine repair required.
  • 1-2 years PLC (Allen Bradley, HMI or equivalent) experience preferred.
  • Ability to work at heights, confined spaces, hot or cold conditions.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, on-call, holidays, weekends, and overtime.

  • Mechanical

  • Stooping, kneeling, crawling: Often, up to 3 hrs.
  • Reaching, grasping, repetitive motions: Regularly up to 10 hrs.


Sensory Requirements:

  • Visual perception and discrimination.
  • Oral communication ability.


Environmental Factors:

  • Regular exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature extremes, noise, machinery, vibration, electrical currents, and machine hazards.
