Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Associate Underwriter to join the Rokstone Commercial Risk segment. This position will provide technical underwriting and administrative support to the underwriting team, ensuring compliance with applicable service standards and regulatory requirements. The Senior Associate Underwriter will assist in the overall management of assigned underwriting territories to drive profitable growth, including underwriting new and renewal business, marketing to broker partners and identifying new business opportunities while meeting and maintaining service standards and successfully managing broker relationships.
Role Responsibilities
- Complete technical review and underwriting analysis of new and renewal business for acceptability according to authority granted.
- Identify the need for and request additional information required to complete underwriting analysis.
- Evaluate, accept, reject or modify risks within established underwriting guidelines and authority granted.
- Calculate appropriate premiums and determine proper terms for acceptable risks and communicate directly with brokers when particular risks do not meet underwriting guidelines
- Make sound risk selection and pricing decisions to drive profitable growth
- Set up and maintain policy files, follow-up for outstanding subjectivities and perform policy maintenance as required and in accordance with service standard guidelines
- Identify the need for, order and review loss control inspections to confirm accounts written are consistent with preliminary underwriting information and take appropriate action when the inspection reveals unacceptable risk characteristics
- Participate in territory team marketing calls, video conferences and agency visits. Some travel may be required
- Quality control bound policies to confirm accuracy, completeness and adherence to underwriting guidelines and standards
- Develop and maintain profitable business relationships with assigned brokers
- Continue to increase underwriting knowledge and skills through a combination of on-the-job training, assigned manuals, self-study and the pursuit of formal education (AINS, ASLI, CPCU, CIC)
- Assist with special projects and other tasks assigned by supervisor or managers.
- Perform other related duties required to achieve the goals and objectives of the business
Role Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- 4 years of related commercial insurance experience required, preferably in Excess and Surplus lines.
- Strong customer service focus and the ability to respond with a sense of urgency
- Strong analytical skills
- Knowledge and experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Strong ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within underwriting
- Experience with policy wording and endorsement issuance
- Desire to progress and learn new skills
