Role: The Analytics Data Engineer builds and maintains the trusted data used for Rogue Credit Union's analytics, reporting, and decision making. Working closely with the Analytics Semantic Architect, this role turns approved business definitions and rules into reliable, well-organized data assets that can be used across the organization with confidence. The Analytics Data Engineer 2 can operate with a great degree of independence, and contributes to the design, optimization, and reliability of data products while applying industry best practices. The role also provides informed input that supports the ongoing development and maturity of data management practices within the Analytics function.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
45% Design, build, and maintain scalable master reporting data assets that support enterprise analytics and reporting needs. Translate approved business definitions and rules into optimized data models and transformations, independently selecting appropriate implementation approach based on performance, usability, and maintainability. Develop data assets using platform capabilities including dataflows, pipelines, SQL, notebooks, views, and distributed processing frameworks. Continuously refine and improve existing data structures to enhance performance, and alignment with evolving enterprise needs.
20% Design and implement robust data validation, reconciliation, and monitoring processes to ensure completeness, accuracy, and reliability of analytics data. Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve complex data issues including those impacting production systems. Participate and potentially lead triage and remediation of data incidents, including readiness to support issue resolution outside of standard business hours when necessary to maintain critical reporting and operations.
15% Serve as a subject matter expert in analytics data engineering practices, applying industry best practices to inform and strengthen Rogue’s data management processes. Provide guidance and recommendations on data modeling, transformation design performance optimization, and platform capabilities. Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering standards, helping establish consistent, scalable, and maintainable approaches across the analytics function and potentially in coordination with non-analytics Rogue functions.
15% Create and maintain clear technical documentation describing pipeline logic, transformation steps, dependencies, and operational considerations. Ensure metadata including lineage, definitions, and ownership is accurately reflected in analytics tools and aligned with the analytics catalog and governance standards.
5% Proactively performs other related duties as needed or assigned.
Knowledge & Skills:
Experience: Three to five years of similar or related experience in data or analytics engineering, designing and optimizing data for organizational reporting and analytics using modern analytics platforms (such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Databricks, or Snowflake) and familiarity with BI tools like Tableau, with a preference for experience in financial services, particularly within a credit union environment.
Education: (1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
Interpersonal Skills: Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Other Skills: Demonstrates advanced SQL proficiency and experience building data transformations using pipeline or notebook-based tools such as Python, PySpark, Spark SQL, Scala, or similar technologies. Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, diagnose, and resolve data issues, along with a high level of attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and reliability. Effectively documents transformation logic, data lineage, and dependencies, and communicates clearly while collaborating with architects, analysts, and business stakeholders. Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving technical environment, with a willingness to learn new tools and engineering methods as platforms mature. Applies disciplined engineering best practices, including testing, version control, and change management.
Physical Requirements: Some lifting required (up to 30 pounds), continuous sitting, occasional standing and occasional walking. Finger dexterity while using computer. Occasional talking and hearing in person and on the telephone. Continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and continuous clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
Work Environment: This job is an exempt position that requires flexibility in scheduling tasks and projects. The employee must independently monitor hours and judge the time needed to be spent on applicable duties. Employee must be capable of adjusting to unpredictable schedules proactively. As a direct representative of the Credit Union, the employee must conduct and present themselves courteously and professionally. Exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, i.e., robbery.
