The Opportunity
We are working with a Non-profit organization seeking a hands-on Controller who will own and manage Accounting & Finance operations. This is an ideal role for a leader who thrives in a small-team environment, and is comfortable balancing high-level strategic planning, while also overseeing and running day-to-day A&F execution.
Currently, the organization is transitioning from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to Quickbooks Online. Experience in Quickbooks is required, and Business Central experience is a huge plus.
This is a full time on-site role, that will have flexibility for hybrid once settled in the seat. Very flexible hours and work schedule.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee all day-to-day financial functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll review, and bank reconciliations. You will own the monthly close process and prepare timely, accurate financial statements.
- Leverage your technical background to lead, optimize, or support the organization's transition to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. You will automate workflows, eliminate manual bottlenecks, and train internal staff on accounting system best practices.
- Partner with executive leadership and department heads to lead the annual budget development process, establishing strong internal controls and policies that promote transparency and accountability.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, orchestrating the annual audit process and ensuring the seamless preparation and timely filing of the Form 990.
- Guide and support a small, dedicated finance team consisting of an administrative staff member and a part-time bookkeeper.
What You Need to Succeed
- Experience: 5 years of progressive accounting experience. Prior experience within the nonprofit sector (fund accounting, FASB standards) is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience participating in or leading a financial ERP system conversion, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked directly with Business Central.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and compliance standards required for managing audits and preparing nonprofit tax filings. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential.
- A self-starter mentality with a collaborative working style. You should be equally comfortable reviewing data line-by-line or presenting financial health reports to leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A CPA or MBA is welcomed but not required.
