What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterans Law Attorney position at Rocky Mountain Veterans Advocacy Project?
We are seeking a Veterans Law Attorney to join our Veterans Benefits, Discharge Upgrade, and Housing section. In this role, you will provide legal counsel, perform legal research, draft documents, and update and maintain files. You will gain experience and have the opportunity to learn from more experienced attorneys. This position is ideal for someone seeking to develop and grow in their law career. Familiarity with housing law, veterans disability law and/or veterans benefits and the UCMJ is a plus, but not required. Candidate should have the ability to communicate well with people in highly stressful and emotional life circumstances of varying backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Prepare briefs, motions, and other legal documents
- Conduct legal research
- Prepare exhibits and exhibit notebooks
- Prepare for and attend legal proceedings
- Provide legal advice to clients
- Conduct administrative hearings and trials
- Maintain detailed and accurate client records
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Juris Doctor (J.D. degree) from an accredited law school
- Successful bar passage in any state, or are awaiting bar results (position may be pending bar passage)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues to best serve clients
- Ability to quickly think and analyze legal and factual issues in court
