Position Summary
The Store Manager serves as the business leader for Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory's Chino Hills retail location, responsible for driving sales growth, delivering exceptional customer experiences, developing a high-performing team, ensuring operational excellence and building lasting relationships within the local community.
This role oversees all aspects of store operations, including financial performance, staffing, merchandising, inventory management, food safety, and regulatory compliance while identifying opportunities to increase sales through community engagement, corporate gifting, local partnerships, in-store events and driving sustainable business growth.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a Store Manager who leads by example, creating a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and exceptional customer service while serving as an ambassador for the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory brand.
Key Responsibilities
The Store Manager will be expected to consistently deliver outstanding results in the following areas:
1. Business Performance
- Achieve or exceed sales goals, profitability targets, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Analyze sales trends and business metrics to identify opportunities for growth.
- Execute local marketing initiatives and partner with the Marketing team to increase store traffic and sales.
- Develop relationships with local businesses, tourism organizations, and community partners to generate corporate and group sales opportunities.
- Take full ownership and responsibility for store performance and be open to critical feedback.
2. Customer Experience
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience that reflects Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory's brand standards.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
- Promote product knowledge through sampling, demonstrations, and personalized recommendations.
- Foster customer loyalty through outstanding service and consistent execution.
3. Leadership & Talent Development
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, coach, and develop high-performing team members.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance coaching and address employee performance concerns promptly.
- Develop employees for increased responsibility and future leadership opportunities.
4. Store Operations
- Oversee daily store operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and consistency.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels through ordering, receiving, stocking, rotation, and inventory control.
- Ensure exceptional merchandising, visual presentation, and store cleanliness.
- Manage scheduling, labor budgets, payroll approvals, and daily operational priorities.
5. Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, FDA, state and local regulations, and Company policies.
- Maintain food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
- Protect Company assets through effective cash handling, inventory control, and loss prevention practices.
- Maintain accurate operational and personnel records.
6. Administrative Leadership
- Oversee timekeeping, scheduling, banking, reporting, and other administrative functions.
- Ensure compliance with employment policies and documentation requirements.
- Partner with Human Resources on recruiting, employee relations, investigations, and performance management.
- Support Company initiatives and special projects as assigned.
This role requires exceptional leadership, business acumen, communication and organizational skills, along with the ability to balance operational priorities while developing employees and delivering an outstanding customer experience.
Education, Experience & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, Hospitality, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum five years of progressive retail, restaurant, or hospitality leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to analyze business results and make sound operational decisions.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Experience managing payroll, labor scheduling, inventory, and operational budgets.
- Proficiency with point-of-sale (POS) systems, Microsoft Office, and retail reporting software.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and responding to urgent business needs.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed primarily in a fast-paced retail environment with frequent customer interaction.
- Regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift including behind customer counters, around cooking tables and in the stock room.
- Frequent bending, reaching away from the body and above the waist level, kneeling, stooping, and lifting merchandise.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Frequent use of a point-of-sale system, computer, telephone, and office equipment.
- Ability to safely use confectionery equipment, kitchen utensils, cleaning equipment, and other retail tools.
