Dispatcher- Transportation

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under limited supervision, dispatches Home to School routes to ensure on-time performance within District. Assists drivers with daily issues. Assists Lead Router with maintaining District Bus routes.

The schedule for this position is TBD.

This position works 40 hours per week with a 260 day work calendar.

$22.12 per hour with standard benefits 

This position reports directly to the director of transportation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

        1. Oversees all routing and scheduling of buses; dispatch buses and provide timely information to drivers on route.

        2. Counsels & coaches drivers and monitors on front line disciplinary & service issues.

        3. Takes all scheduling and driver complaints, report to Assistant Location Manager or resolve problems directly with the
          customer.
       4. Handles heavy phone and radio traffic.
       5. May handle charter reservations, billing, or driver payroll.
       6. May monitor licensing and participate in hiring drivers.
       7. Provides solutions to drop-off and pick-up problems; resolve issues as needed.
       8. May handle backup driver duties or perform miscellaneous clerical duties while buses are in route.
       9. Assists drivers with day-to-day operations and ensure compliance with state and local ordinances, and company                   policies and procedures.
      10. Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with employees of all levels, as well as parents, students and community members.
• Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
• Ability to learn and become proficient with Versatrans routing system.
• Ability to safely, legally operate a motor vehicle.
• Respect for drivers, students, teachers and parents.
• Exercises sound judgment on sensitive issues.
• Ability to move throughout building and in the surrounding facility outside the office (i.e. bus parking lot).

 BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid CDL with “P and S” endorsement or ability to obtain.
• Three to five years’ similar experience, to include terminal operations, dispatch or driver experience.
• Three to five years of customer experience.
• Experience with and working knowledge of Microsoft Word applications and radio dispatch equipment.
• Familiarity with basic vehicle mechanical processes and maintenance.
• Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to use full range of hearing, speech and vision.

EQUIPMENT USED: 

Computers and other office equipment, to include radio dispatch equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

• Ability to work in a variety of locations, travel throughout the District, work non-traditional hours which may include evenings and weekends and meet the physical demands of handling a variety of needs. While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand, reach, bend, stoop, crouch, squat and kneel. 
• Working conditions can include inclement weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
