QUALIFICAITONS

EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent

WORK

EXPERIENCE: Previous similar work experience is preferred but not required

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY

Housekeeping Assistants will be responsible for housekeeping and cleaning functions within the facility. They will work in an assigned area in and around patient care areas and in the common areas of the facility. Work will be on a routine basis as well as on an as-needed basis in the event of the necessity for immediate cleaning of any area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Follow proper procedures to keep all areas of the facility clean. This will include dusting, mopping, vacuuming and sanitizing all surfaces.

· Follow daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules

· Maintain a safe environment by keeping cleaning supplies locked in cleaning cart and equipment stored in a locked room

· While in use, keep cleaning cart and mop buckets to one side of the hallway

· Notify the charge nurse of any change in a patient’s condition

· Follow safety rules at all times

· Restock nursing supplies such as gloves and disposable linens as needed

· Restock paper products as needed

· Follow infection control guidelines

· Keep resident humidifiers filled during the heating season

· Water plants throughout the facility including outside flowers and plants

· Follow special procedures for cleaning isolation rooms

· Monitor floors for accidents, spills and odor problems and keep them controlled

· Spot treat and clean carpets as needed

· Complete seasonal or as-needed tasks as assigned, such as washing windows, washing drapes and divider curtains, etc.

· Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS

Lifting Requirements. Frequently called upon to lift objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally called upon to lift supplies and equipment between 10 and 50 lbs.

Carrying Requirements. Frequently called upon to carry items up to 10 lbs. Occasionally called upon to carry cleaning supplies between 10 and 50 lbs.

Sight Requirements. Required to have normal vision as corrected

Hearing Requirements. Required to have a normal range of hearing as corrected

Socialization Requirements. Basic socialization skills are required to interact with co-workers, residents, visitors and families

Other Physical Requirements. Frequently called upon to perform daily duties involving sitting, standing, walking, turning, bending, pivoting, overhead reaching, squatting, kneeling, crouching and moving intermittently

Environment:

· Subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc.

· Subject to reactions from dust, disinfectants and other air contaminants.

· Subject to exposure to blood, body fluids, infection waste, diseases, conditions, etc.

· Subject to handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals
