About the Role
Rockwater is seeking a motivated Enrolled Agent to join our growing Tax Resolution team. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional looking to expand beyond tax preparation and compliance into the specialized field of IRS and state tax resolution.
As a Junior Tax Resolution Associate, you will work directly with experienced tax professionals to help individuals and businesses resolve complex tax matters. We will provide hands-on training in tax resolution strategies, IRS representation, collections matters, and case management while helping you develop into a trusted advisor for our clients.
The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in individual and business taxation, excellent communication skills, and a desire to build expertise in tax controversy and resolution services.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients throughout the resolution process, providing a high-touch and responsive client experience
- Partner closely with senior team members to develop and execute tax resolution strategies
- Participate in client onboarding and help ensure a smooth transition from the sales process into service delivery
- Analyze tax returns, transcripts, financial statements, bank records, and other documentation to support case strategy
- Communicate with the IRS and state taxing authorities under Power of Attorney authorization
- Assist with preparation of resolution submissions, including: Installment Agreements, Offers in Compromise, Currently Not Collectible requests, Penalty Abatement requests, Audit Reconsiderations, Appeals and other resolution programs
- Conduct research utilizing IRS guidance, the Internal Revenue Code, Internal Revenue Manual, and applicable state regulations
- Prepare client deliverables, correspondence, and supporting documentation
- Utilize internal systems and technology to manage cases efficiently and accurately
- Collaborate with support staff and other team members to maintain quality and workflow efficiency
- Maintain an expected utilization rate of 80%, balancing client service and productivity

Qualifications
- Active Enrolled Agent (EA) license required
- 2 years of tax preparation, tax compliance, or tax advisory experience
- Experience with individual and business tax returns
- Strong understanding of federal tax concepts and procedures
- Desire to build a career in tax resolution and IRS representation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
