Hourly Rate: $30.00 – $42.00

Position Overview

The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing a specialized fleet of airport de-icing trucks, diesel-powered equipment, service vehicles, and support machinery used in aircraft ground operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and operational readiness during winter de-icing seasons and year-round maintenance programs.

Primary Responsibilities

Fleet Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on:
• Aircraft de-icing trucks
• Heavy-duty diesel trucks
• Airport service vehicles
• Fleet support equipment
• Auxiliary power and pumping systems
• Hydraulic systems and components
• Complete preventative maintenance inspections and repairs.
• Perform emergency breakdown repairs as required.
• Maintain equipment reliability and minimize downtime during operational periods.

Mechanical Systems

Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul:

• Diesel engines
• Electrical systems
• Electronic control systems
• Hydraulic systems
• Steering components
• Drive shafts
• Differentials
• Axles
• Transmissions
• Suspension systems
• Radiators and cooling systems
• Bearings
• Ignition systems
• Front and rear-end assemblies

Preventative Maintenance

• Execute scheduled PM programs across the fleet.
• Complete inspections and maintenance tracking.
• Maintain vehicle service records and documentation.
• Prepare repair estimates and parts requirements.
• Process work orders and purchase requests when required.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate maintenance logs.
• Track vehicle identification, mileage, inspections, repairs, and service history.
• Complete required maintenance reports and safety documentation.
• Follow airport, company, and regulatory procedures.

Equipment Experience Considered an Asset

Experience working on:

• Freightliner trucks
• Mercedes-powered equipment
• Volvo-powered equipment
• Heavy-duty diesel fleets
• Municipal equipment
• Snow and ice removal equipment
• Hydraulic boom systems
• Airport Ground Support Equipment (GSE)
• Specialized aviation support equipment

Qualifications

Required

• Minimum 2–5 years of heavy-duty diesel repair experience.
• Journeyman certification in:
• Heavy Equipment
• Automotive
• Agricultural Equipment
• Related Mechanical Trade
• Valid Driver's License.
• Ability to pass:
• Airport Security Background Check
• Drug & Alcohol Screening
• Restricted Access Identity Card (RAIC) clearance process
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
