What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fitter position at Rockstar Personnel?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler
- Cuts workpiece using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife
- Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments
- Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications
- Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations
- Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts
- Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques
- Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits
- Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors
- Perform other duties as required and assigned
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- 2 years’ experience operating as a commercial fitter
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures
- Must be able to read an assemble to blueprints
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers, etc.)
- Deftness and attention to detail
- Current and valid certification a plus
Success Factors and Competencies:
- Must be able to make amperage and voltage adjustments to welding equipment to provide optimal weld penetration in relationship to various steel thickness
- Follow welding procedure specifications in designated fabrication areas
- Ability to complete projects with little or no supervision
- Must be able to operate all welding equipment
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
- Steel toe boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection are required at all times
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
