Vice President of Clinical Operations (Northern California)
Position Summary
The Vice President of Clinical Operations (VPCO) provides strategic and operational leadership for the clinical functions across skilled nursing facilities in Northern California. This role ensures high-quality resident outcomes, regulatory compliance, and clinical excellence through proactive systems management, regional leadership development, and cross-functional collaboration with operations, quality, and therapy teams. The VPCO serves as a key member of the senior leadership team, aligning clinical priorities with the organization’s mission, values, and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Partner with the Chief Clinical Officer and executive leadership to develop and execute strategic initiatives that enhance clinical performance, quality outcomes, and resident satisfaction.
- Serve as a key clinical advisor to operational leadership, including Regional Vice Presidents of Operations and Administrators, ensuring alignment between clinical care and financial performance.
- Lead and mentor Regional Clinical and Quality leaders to drive consistency, accountability, and engagement across facilities.
Clinical Oversight
- Oversee all aspects of clinical operations including nursing, infection prevention, QAPI, care transitions, and risk management across assigned facilities.
- Monitor and guide performance in key clinical indicators (Five-Star Ratings, survey outcomes, rehospitalizations, quality measures, and staffing).
- Lead clinical response plans for survey readiness, adverse events, and regulatory investigations.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and company policies, including CMS, CDPH, Title 22, and company-specific standards of care.
- Support facilities in developing and implementing corrective action plans following surveys, complaints, and performance audits.
- Drive continuous improvement through data analysis, benchmarking, and structured follow-up.
Talent Development & Engagement
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing clinical leaders through coaching, succession planning, and professional development initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, communication, and teamwork that promotes staff engagement and resident-centered care.
- Collaborate with HR and education teams to develop regional training strategies that address skill gaps and promote clinical excellence.
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Therapy, Dietary, Compliance, and Finance leaders to ensure integrated, person-centered care delivery.
- Provide timely communication and consultation to facility and regional leadership regarding clinical trends, emerging risks, and best practices.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
- Licensure: Current, active RN license in the State of California.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive clinical leadership experience in the skilled nursing or post-acute care industry, including multi-facility oversight.
- Knowledge: Expert understanding of Title 22, CMS regulations, MDS, PDPM, infection prevention, and quality improvement principles.
Skills: Proven ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Demonstrated success in improving clinical and regulatory outcomes.
Travel Requirements
- Frequent travel required across multiple facilities in Northern California (estimated 70–80% of the time).
