TITLE: Paramedic
REPORTS TO: Field Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Paramedic is an emergency medical professional who provides advanced life support to patients in emergency and non-emergency situations. This position also assumes a leadership role when working with EMT Basics. The Paramedic works under the guidelines of KCEMS Protocols and the medical control physician. The Paramedic adheres to the rules and regulations set forth by the Medical Director Pre-Hospital (M.D.P.H) in the care and transportation of the critical care patients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Maintains the ability to use the following necessary equipment and skills:
- Cardiac monitoring
- Cardiac Defibrillation and cardioversion
- Medication Administration via different routes; ie: Orally, intramuscular, intravenously, endotracheally, or subcutaneously.
- Insertion and maintenance of peripheral IV’s
- Insertion and maintenance of endotracheal tubes; nasally & orally
2. Can operate various pieces of equipment:
- Cardiac Monitors (Zoll cardiac monitor)
- LTV 1200 (Critical Care only)
- Various types of vials and ampules
- Various sizes and types of syringes
- Various sizes and types of IV tubing and pumps
- Laryngoscope
- McGill forceps
- Ked board
- Spinal immobilization devices
- Oxygen regulators
- Sphygmomanometer
- Stretchers
- VHF, 800 and UHF radios
3. Maintains all EMT Basic skills:
- Insertion and maintenance of King Airway
- Taking of vital signs
- Application of dressings and splints
- Basic airway management
- CPR
- Oxygen administration
- Extrication techniques
- History taking
- Safe and defensive emergency and non-emergency techniques
- Appropriate radio usage, including the ability to give complete and concise Med Com reports
- Proper spinal immobilization
- Child birth techniques
4. Records all information concisely, accurately and completely on the appropriate forms: ePCRs, Daily Ambulance Checklists, etc.
5. Maintains their ambulance, ALS equipment and station, making sure they are clean and appropriately stocked.
6. Follows patient confidentiality standards in accordance with HIPAA
7. Maintains a thorough knowledge of the KCEMS protocols
8. Responds to all ambulance calls as the dispatcher assigns them, and does so according to company established standards, in a safe manner.
9. Maintains a thorough knowledge of Rockford Ambulance’s geographical service area.
10. Performs all other duties as determined appropriate by management.

Education & Experience:
- Michigan EMT License required
- BLS/CPR certification required
- PHTLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- PALS certification required
- Valid drivers license required. **Chauffeur’s license required **
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
- Must be able to respond quickly to ambulance or transfer calls
- Perform strenuous activities, including but not limited to, climbing, stairs, lifting, moving heavy equipment, water rescues, etc. over difficult terrain and dangerous environments
- Able to safely operate emergency vehicles including in all types of weather conditions
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, driving, lifting, etc.
