Reports to: Dispatch Supervisor

Job Summary:

Operates the company communications center. Responsible for seeing that all requests (911 Emergency or Transfers) for ambulance service are fulfilled in an orderly and timely fashion.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Receives all requests for ambulance service and fulfills them as soon as possible.

2. Obtains exact location, nature of problem, and other pertinent information from those requesting an ambulance.

3. Follows EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) Protocol for questioning callers, prioritizing the call, and providing pre-arrival instructions when indicated.

4. Dispatches & coordinates the movement of company ambulances, utilizing maps and familiarity with geographic coverage area.

5. Maintains constant communication with ambulance crews.

6. Understands and maintains agency CAD.

7. Dispatches non-emergency calls so as not to interfere with the ability to provide

emergency services.

8. Coordinates radio traffic for all pertinent agencies (Rockford Ambulance, etc.).

9. Answers all non-emergency telephone calls and directs them to the appropriate person.

10. Provides assistance to ambulance crews as needed.

11. Documents and records all dispatch activity on the dispatch computer accurately.

12. Provides for the safety of responding units and other emergency responders by maintaining the location, sharing pertinent information, monitoring scene times and completing status checks, etc.

13. Requests assistance and coordinates with other agencies as needed.

14. Notifies appropriate agency for repairs and ensures company communications are maintained in the event of communications failure.

15. Advises on duty crews of weather conditions, road closures, hospital diversions, etc.

16. Other duties as determined appropriate by management.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Must possess a valid EMD certification within the first 30 days of employment
  • May require a valid Chauffeur’s License within the first 30 days of employment

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk
  • Repeating motions that may include wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Prolonged periods of operating computer, radio traffic, and phone calls
  • Occasionally lift up to 15 pounds
  • Occasionally may need to stoop or crouch to reach equipment

* Training will be on days before moving to full-time night shift *

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
