Position
We're looking for an AI Software Developer to join our Platform Development team — someone who's not just keeping up with the AI revolution but genuinely excited by it. This is a hands-on role where you'll build the backend services and data layer that power AI-driven tools like our text-to-SQL chatbot and help shape how financial advisors interact with data every day.
Your focus will be .NET/C# APIs, data platforms, and AI integration — building the services and pipelines that connect large language models to real financial data across Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and SQL Server. You'll solve the hard problems that come with making AI useful (not just cool) in a regulated industry. Our data lives across multiple platforms, and you'll be the person who understands how to structure it so AI can query it accurately. The AI writes the SQL — you need to know when it gets it right and when it doesn't. If you tinker with AI tools on your own time, get excited about new model releases, and want to bring that energy to a team that's building real things — this is the opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs using .NET/C# deployed on Microsoft Azure, with occasional contributions to React (TypeScript) front ends
- Contribute to AI-powered features including a text-to-SQL agent that enables financial advisors to query complex datasets using natural language
- Build and iterate on AI integration patterns — prompt engineering, RAG, function calling, and agent-based workflows — with appropriate guardrails for a regulated financial environment
- Work with data across SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric, and Databricks — analyzing schemas, validating AI-generated queries for correctness and performance, and helping determine how to best expose data for AI consumption
- Collaborate across product, design, and data teams to deliver AI features from concept through production; write clean, testable code and participate actively in peer code reviews
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 3–5 years of professional software development experience with backend and API development (.NET/C#); front-end experience with React/TypeScript is a plus
- Strong SQL skills — you can analyze complex queries, understand query performance, and navigate schemas across SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric, and Databricks
- Hands-on experience building with AI/LLM technologies — whether personal projects, hackathons, or production features. Specific frameworks matter less than your ability to pick up new ones quickly
- Experience with Microsoft Azure services (App Service, Azure Functions, API Management)
- Familiarity with data platforms like SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, or equivalent
- Experience with Python, CI/CD pipelines, or containerization (Docker) is a plus
- Understanding of secure coding practices; financial services or regulated industry experience preferred
Compensation Range
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $125,000 to $140,000. Base salary for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience, and may fall outside of the range shown. In addition, this role may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. Rockefeller Capital Management offers a comprehensive benefit package including health coverage, vacation time, paid leave, retirement plan, and more.
