Job Summary
This is an administrative position responsible for developing, implementing, and administering daily operations of the Magistrate Court. The employee in this role assists the Clerk of Magistrate Court in the supervision of court staff, coordinating court functions, supporting in the facilitation of court proceedings, and maintaining court records in accordance with prevailing laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. The Magistrate Judge and Clerk of Magistrate Court assign work in terms of general instructions. Completed work is checked for accuracy and the nature and propriety of the results.

Essential Functions

Assists the Clerk of Magistrate Court in supervising the day-to-day operations and assigned court personnel.
Assists in the coordination, indexing, and maintaining of data regarding Magistrate Court cases; including the processing and organizing of court documents.
Assists with reviewing the court calendar to ensure all services and notices are accurate.
May perform responsibilities of the Clerk of Magistrate Court in' his or her absence, or as needed.
May oversee special project assignments in association with clerical and administrative duties.
Trains staff and instructs in work methods prepares and coordinates a monthly calendar of staff.
Researches and recommends the use of applicable laws and judicial procedures to Magistrates.
Receives and responds to inquiries from the public, attorneys, judges, and other county employees, in­ person, by phone, or by the computer; communicates problems to appropriate staff.
Prepares a variety of written correspondence including financial reports, memorandums, notices, and letters.
Additional Duties:
Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Magistrate Court policies and procedures, laws, rules, and regulations.

Knowledge of policies that apply to records retention.

Knowledge of general office procedures and modern office equipment.

Knowledge of County and Clerk policies and procedures.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision; with the ability to delegate tasks/assignments.

Knowledge of accounting and budgeting practices.

Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws; with the ability to interpret, apply, and explain.

Knowledge of legal terminology.

Ability to compute routine mathematical tabulations in an accurate and efficient manner.

Ability to learn tasks within a reasonable training period, and to adhere to prescribed routines.

Ability to utilize word processing and spreadsheet computer software applications.

Ability to communicate and deal effectively with other employees and the public, both orally and in writing.

Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public in sometimes difficult and trying circumstances.

Ability to prioritize, organize, and schedule assignments effectively.

Ability to lift more than 20 pounds.

Ability to use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office or courtroom environment, with the employee sitting at a desk with intermittent standing or walking.

Minimum Qualifications
1) Associate degree in Business, Public Administration, Paralegal Certificate, or college course work in law preferred.

2) Five (5) years of court administrative experience in a legal environment, one (1) year of which must be at a supervisory level.

3) OR have a combination of education, training, and work experience that is equivalent to #1 and #2 above that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Preferred
1)    One (1) years working in Magistrate Court experience preferred.

Salary : $50,749 - $57,777
