    Job Summary
    The RAISE program instructor with in the community education department, will be responsible for effectively delivering course content and materials to students with intellectual disabilities, significant learning disabilities, and autism. Associated duties will include creating supplemental lesson plans, grading assignments, administering exams, and evaluating student performance. Additionally, the instructor is expected to work collaboratively with other faculty members, the program coordinator, and department staff to support the persistence, retention, and completion goals of the program.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.
    • Effectively utilize the Canvas learning management system to access and manage course content; Provide input on syllabi, coursework, lesson plans and activities, update and modify all as necessary
    • Keep accurate records of student attendance, progress, and mastery of course objectives
    • Demonstrate effective classroom management techniques; uphold expectations of college code of conduct
    • Collaborate with the coordinator, fellow RAISE instructors, the DSS director and other staff to meet program objectives and goals
    • Display punctuality and adhere to established class start/end times
    • Deliver engaging course content that in a variety of methods that aligns with learning objectives and a variety of learning styles – visual, auditory, kinesthetic
    • Develop lesson plans, activities, and assessments that foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Provide constructive feedback on assignments and exams to promote student growth
    • Provide information on student performance and progress for the program coordinator and district partners as requested
    • Demonstrate and maintain regular and respectful communication with director, coordinator, students, stakeholders, families and staff at all times
    • Stay current with developments and best practices in the field and incorporate new knowledge into teaching materials and methodologies
    • Facilitate discussions, group activities, and other collaborative learning opportunities
    • Manage classroom technology, including audiovisual equipment and online learning platforms
    • Provide individualized support to students as needed in the classroom; work with Accommodations Specialist regarding any students requiring reasonable accommodations
    • Participate in curriculum development and assessment of student learning outcomes
    • Collaborate with other faculty members to improve teaching methods and course content; attend trainings as requested
    • Attend and assist with special events (ex. program open houses, orientations, graduation ceremony, etc.) as requested
    • Follow all RVC rules and regulations concerning staff conduct, appropriate dress, program procedures, and other responsibilities as set forth by administrative staff
    • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or closely related field
    • At least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, particularly teaching

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Desired:
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Prior experience working with underrepresented students, particularly those with intellectual disabilities
    • High energy level and ability to engage students
    • Prior experience working at the postsecondary education level; knowledge of and familiarity with learning management systems
    • Strong listening, interpersonal, and communication skills
    • Ability to build relationships and effectively collaborate with a wide range of constituencies
    • Sound critical thinking skills which contribute to identifying comprehensive solutions and implementation strategies
    • Ability to use independent judgment to manage and impart confidential information
    • Strong organization skills, including the ability to initiate and complete assigned tasks with proficiency and independence
    • Ability to use tact and good judgement at all times; Ability to effectively identify problems, engage in resolution processes, and offer solutions in collaboration with appropriate individuals
