General Definition of Work

The Assistant Director of Alternative Learning at the Bellview Center provides administrative leadership and specialized support for the T3 Program and the MUSC Day Treatment Center (DTC). This role focuses on students in grades K-8 who present with severe mental health diagnoses, significant emotional challenges, or behavioral needs that impact academic progress. The Assistant Director ensures academic continuity while working in close coordination with clinical partners to equip students with skills for successful reintegration into mainstream settings.

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Rock Hill Schools. Rock Hill Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

 

Essential Functions  

  • T3 & Day Treatment Program Administration
    • Program Oversight: Manages the T3 Program for K-5 students, ensuring a structured, positive behavior model that fosters a safe and supportive learning environment.  
    • Clinical Collaboration: Works in direct collaboration with the MUSC Day Treatment Center Program Manager while respecting MUSC’s sole authority over clinical services and treatment planning.
    • Intake & Orientation: Leads intake meetings and provides orientation for new families to ensure a seamless transition into the program.
    • Transition Leadership: Serves as the team lead for transitioning students back to their home schools once they have gained the skills to thrive academically and socially.  
    • Testing Coordinator: Acts as the site coordinator for all district and state testing, including MAP, SC Ready, and CogAT.
    • Safety & Emergencies: Functions as the primary point of contact for emergency situations and oversees all safety drills in accordance with regulations.  
    • Special Education: Serves as the LEA representative for IEP and Section 504 processes, maintaining district ownership of these plans while integrating clinical input.  
  • Operations & Logistics
    • Behavioral Management: Oversees all non-clinical behavior management and school consequences, and must be Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) trained.  
    • Roster & Attendance: Maintains the master program roster and assists with documenting attendance, tardies, and absences.  
    • Ancillary Services: Facilitates communication regarding transportation bus rosters and coordinates with the cafeteria on breakfast and lunch services.  
    • Instructional Support: Provides direct classroom coverage and coordinates substitutes to maintain instructional stability.  
    • Medical Administration: Supports medication to students when necessary, following appropriate training and district protocols.  
  • Staff Supervision & District Development
    • Staff Management: Supervises and supports a team of educators and support staff, including weekly collaboration with teachers and Behavioral Management Assistants (BMAs).  
    • Continuous Improvement: Engages in ongoing professional development to enhance services for students and families.  

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • K-8 Expertise: Deep knowledge of elementary and middle school developmental milestones and pedagogical strategies.  
  • Collaborative Skill: Ability to work within a dual-governance model, balancing district educational requirements with MUSC clinical program flow.  
  • Crisis Response: Ability to perform under high levels of stress and manage frequent interruptions.  
  • Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of laws and regulations relating to education, management, and supervision. 
  • Specialized Knowledge: Deep understanding of laws and regulations relating to special education (IDEA), alternative education, and virtual learning environments.
  • Instructional Acuity: Ability to evaluate and coach teachers on effective instructional and assessment practices in a non-traditional or digital setting.  
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals, particularly in high-stress conflict resolution or disciplinary matters.  
  • Problem Solving: Independent problem-solving skills required to analyze complex behavioral or academic issues and create actionable intervention plans.
  • Communication: Effective communication across multiple modes (verbal, written, and digital) to support diverse stakeholders.  

 

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in educational administration or related field required. Graduate work in administration, curriculum planning and implementation, teacher evaluation and supervision and evaluation required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in education leadership preferred, specifically within K-8 (Elementary or Middle School) settings. 
  • Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations

  • SC Certification in secondary administration or ability to obtain.   

Special Requirements

  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • May be required to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings.
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided.

 

Physical Requirements/Work Conditions

  • Work requires the occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
  • Work regularly requires exchange of accurate and detailed information through oral and written communication.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office business equipment.
  • Ability to remain in stationary position for required meetings/work.
  • Ability to move to other work locations.
  • Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating standard office equipment, and the use of advanced technology.
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic).
  • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Must be adaptable to performing under mild to high levels of stress.

Pre-Onboarding and Employment Requirements
As a condition of employment and prior to onboarding, the district will conduct a criminal history background check. The recommended candidate will be required to provide personal information necessary to complete the background check such as date of birth, gender, and race to remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.  As part of the pre-employment process, candidates will be required to submit TB test results and complete designated employment tasks.
