RIT's Department of Electrical and Microelectronic Engineering invites applications for a non-tenure track position as a lecturer to teach courses in Electrical Engineering curriculum such as circuits, electronics (both digital and analog), digital systems, microcomputers, linear systems, semiconductors, and programming. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field. Exceptional candidates with a master's degree and significant industrial experience will also be considered. Successful candidates must have demonstrated potential for high-quality teaching and a willingness to implement innovative teaching methodologies. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring students, supervising co-curricular activities, developing courses and lab modules, participating in / leading K-12 and industry outreach, and managing lab facilities. Candidates with previous college-level teaching experience may be considered for a senior lecturer position or receive credit toward fulfilling the requirements for promotion to senior lecturer. We are seeking an individual who has the ability and interest in contributing to a community committed to student-centeredness; professional development and scholarship; integrity and ethics; innovation and flexibility; and teamwork and collaboration. The College/ Department
The Electrical and Microelectronic Department is one of six academic departments in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering. The Kate Gleason College of Engineering | RIT offers bachelor's and master's in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, and microelectronics engineering as well as four Ph.D. degrees in biomedical and chemical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical and industrial Engineering, and microsystems engineering and additional master's programs in engineering management and leadership. Serving over 2600 undergraduates and 400 graduate students, the college is committed to growing its research profile while maintaining a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Major research themes include advanced manufacturing; biomedical and healthcare engineering; artificial intelligence and machine learning; cyber-physical systems; micro- and nanoscale systems devices and materials; energy and environment; and data analysis modeling and simulation. Hallmarks of the undergraduate experience include one full year of cooperative education, an innovative multidisciplinary senior design program, and an impressive variety of well-supported student teams and clubs.
The Electrical Engineering Department has 550 undergraduates and 145 graduate students. Faculty and staff include 26 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, six lecturers, four support staff, and three academic advisors. In addition to teaching within the department, faculty conduct research and advise doctoral students in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, Imaging Science, Computer and Information Sciences, and Sustainability. Faculty research expertise includes digital and computer systems, robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, biomedical devices, communications, controls, integrated devices/circuits, MEMs, electromagnetic fields, semiconductor electronics, photonics/optoelectronics and signal/image/video processing. Researchers have access to exceptional laboratory resources for design and simulation of electronic/photonic circuits and systems, and a state of the art microfabrication clean room facility that supports materials and processes for micro/nano devices. Research expenditures average approximately $4 M annually. Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Doctorate in Electrical Engineering or closely related field. Exceptional candidates with master's degrees and extensive industry experience will be considered.
- Ability and commitment to effectively teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Interest in working in a collaborative, collegial environment
- Prior course or lab (Teaching Assistant) teaching experience in electrical engineering related fields
- A brief teaching philosophy (2-page limit)
