Substitute Food Service Assistant

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT/S: The job of “Food Service Assistant” is done for the purpose/s of preparing and distributing food items for general consumption by students and school personnel and maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Prepare food and beverage for the purpose of providing good items for general consumption by students and other school personnel.
• Serve one or more items of food for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.
• Stock foods, condiments and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items.
• Estimate food preparation amounts for the purpose of meeting projected meal requirements and minimizing waste.
• Inspect one or more items of food and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated health requirements.
• Clean utensils, equipment and the areas of storage, food preparation and serving for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition.
• Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.

JOB REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience Required: Prior job related experience in food preparation, serving and basic kitchen activities.
• Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
  • Skills to perform basic arithmetic calculations and operate institutional kitchen equipment.
  • Knowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes and sanitation principles.
  • Abilities to stand for extended periods of time, understand and carry out oral and written instructions.  Significant physical abilities include work in wet and humid conditions, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, balancing, stooping, reaching/handling/fingering, talking, hearing conversations and other sounds (potential hazards).
• Education Required:  High school diploma or equivalent.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, BONDING AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:
TB Test clearance, Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance and Employee Entrance Lifting Test.
