Position Summary
The Director of the Small Business Center provides strategic leadership and oversight for all small business development initiatives. Reporting to the Vice President for Workforce Development and Continuing Education, this role is responsible for advancing entrepreneurship, supporting local economic growth, and delivering high-quality resources and services to current and prospective small business owners.
Essential Duties
Leadership & Administration
- Serve as Director of the Small Business Center Office of Robeson Community College and its affiliated business partners.
- Provide leadership for small business development program opportunities in coordination with senior administrators.
- Manage all grants and sponsored programs, including budgets, reports, personnel, deliverables, and evaluations, in accordance with North Carolina guidelines and funding agency requirements.
- Develop strategies for delivering small business development services in collaboration with local, state, and national entities.
- Foster meaningful relationships with internal and external partners to support the mission of the Small Business Center.
- Provide small business research, counseling, workshops, seminars, and support services to the college and community as requested.
- Monitor and interpret trends in small business development to inform program growth and institutional advancement.
- Promote and communicate the mission, vision, and educational philosophy of Robeson Community College to the public.
- Maintain the integrity of the College and its related foundations while ensuring confidentiality in all business matters.
Planning
- Participate in institutional planning processes as requested by the Vice President.
- Research and analyze strategic business opportunities related to the Small Business Center.
- Identify and develop relevant services, workshops, seminars, and training opportunities for the College and its partners.
- Plan and recommend the annual operating budget for the Small Business Center Office.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities through local, state, federal, and private sources.
Organizing
- Assist in the development and revision of policies for the Robeson Community College District.
- Establish procedures to implement policies and regulations related to Small Business Center operations.
- Collaborate with internal teams, advisory committees, and partner organizations to ensure best practices in small business services.
- Develop and recommend operational procedures for the Small Business Center Office.
- Coordinate contributions to institutional publications, including the President’s Annual Report and College Catalog.
Directing
- Direct and supervise staff assigned to the Small Business Center Office.
- Oversee the development and delivery of training schedules, seminars, and educational programming.
- Encourage innovation and creativity within the Small Business Center and across the organization.
- Serve as a role model and advocate for small business education at the college and statewide levels.
Controlling
- Assist in developing performance standards for Small Business Center activities.
- Ensure compliance with standards set by the North Carolina Community College System and Robeson Community College.
- Oversee adherence to fiscal management policies and procedures.
- Implement performance appraisal systems in collaboration with college leadership.
- Ensure compliance with equipment and facility management policies and procedures.
Public Relations
- Maintain strong relationships with the Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, and staff.
- Serve as a liaison with the North Carolina Community College System and other partner organizations.
- Collaborate on marketing and public relations initiatives.
- Promote Robeson Community College at local, state, regional, and national levels.
- Participate in activities that enhance the College’s public image.
Other Duties
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the President of Robeson Community College.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Business or a Business-Related field is required. A Master's degree in Business Administration is preferred.
Experience
A minimum of four (4) years' experience in a business commerce, or finance field in a public or private setting is required.
