Role Summary
Roberts Ditching is seeking a skilled Boring Machine Locator (HDD Locator) to support directional drilling operations across West Texas. This role is responsible for tracking and guiding the drill head using electronic locating systems to ensure accurate bore paths, avoid existing utilities, and maintain job safety and efficiency.
This is a critical, high-responsibility role that works directly with the drill operator and crew to execute successful underground installations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate locating equipment (e.g., Digitrak, Subsite) to track drill head position, depth, and alignment
- Guide the drill operator to maintain proper bore path and avoid existing utilities
- Read and interpret bore plans, profiles, and utility markings
- Maintain constant communication with the drill operator during operations
- Verify clearances and ensure compliance with safety and utility locating standards
- Identify potential conflicts and adjust bore path as needed
- Assist with job site setup, potholing, and verification of existing utilities
- Support crew operations and assist with equipment as needed
- Maintain and calibrate locating equipment
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience as an HDD Locator
- Hands-on experience with locating systems such as Digitrak, Subsite, or similar
- Understanding of bore plans, elevations, and underground utility layouts
- Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with operators
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather and job site conditions
- Willingness to travel
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting fiber, telecom, or power distribution projects
- Ability to operate additional equipment (mini excavator, skid steer, etc.)
- CDL (Class A or B)
- OSHA or safety certifications
Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
