Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in implementing educational programs and individualized lesson plans for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students in various subjects and activities.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.
- Help create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
- Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to adapt instructional materials and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Support students in developing social skills and managing behavioral challenges.
- Assist with classroom management and maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or school administration.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher preferred. Requires two years of college, an AA degree, or successfully completed the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
- Previous experience working with children, particularly in an educational or special education setting, is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience and empathy, along with a genuine desire to support students with diverse learning needs.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of special education practices and principles is preferred.
- Availability to work part-time hours, including flexibility to accommodate the school schedule.
- Must pass background checks and comply with school district policies.
This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The employment “at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and approved by the Board of Trustees of District 411.
