We are looking for an experienced interim Controller with insurance industry experience to oversee the accounting operations of a dynamic insurance wholesaler in Dallas, Texas. This long-term contract position involves managing financial processes, providing strategic insights, and supporting an active acquisition strategy. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical accounting, financial reporting, and leadership, coupled with industry-specific expertise in insurance and brokerage operations. This is a 6-month contract position. 100% ONSITE in Dallas, TX 75251. Must have insurance industry experience.

interim Controller with insurance industry experience (contract position):

Responsibilities:

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal policies.

• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy across all balance sheet accounts.

• Supervise customer billing processes, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing to retail brokers and agency partners.

• Oversee brokerage accounting functions, including premium tracking, fee management, and commission calculations.

• Prepare and review financial statements and management reports to provide actionable insights to executive leadership.

• Mentor and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering collaboration and technical expertise.

• Implement internal controls to ensure transactional integrity and compliance with established policies.

• Assist in integrating accounting systems and processes for acquired entities, ensuring seamless transitions.

• Identify opportunities for process improvements, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

• Collaborate with sales and operations teams to address accounting inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on the insurance industry.

• Proficiency in mid-sized to large accounting systems; experience with Vertafore or similar platforms preferred.

• Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, US GAAP, and insurance operations accounting practices.

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and data analysis; familiarity with visualization tools is a plus.

• Proven ability to lead systems integrations and manage data conversions related to acquisitions.

• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with a track record of building cross-functional relationships.

• Experience in mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, and statutory financial reporting.
