What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Creative Operations position at Robert Half?

If you’re a systems-minded leader who thrives in creative environments someone who can see the big picture, design the operating system, and still roll up your sleeves to solve today’s issues we’d love to talk.

Robert Half Technology is seeking a Director of Creative Operations to architect and run the operating system for a fast-growing, premier entertainment marketing environment spanning Film/Series, Games, and Content.

This role sits at the intersection of Creative, Production, IT, and Finance and is responsible for unifying fragmented workflows, optimizing the technology stack, and enabling the studio to scale revenue without linearly scaling headcount. You will empower editors, motion designers, producers, and leadership to do their best work by building systems that are clear, efficient, data-driven, and future-proof. Director of Creative Operations

If you love AV, know the difference between an offline editor and a finisher, and thrive on turning chaos into a clean, predictable pipeline, this is your stage.

Key Responsibilities

1. Workflow Architecture & Unification

  • Audit and map end-to-end workflows across all divisions (Film/Series, Games, Content) and locations (U.S. and UK) to identify redundancy, friction, and margin “black holes.”
  • Design and implement a unified “Creative Operating System” that standardizes job intake, file naming, server allocation, review cycles, and delivery protocols.
  • Build scalable processes that enable cross-office collaboration and “follow-the-sun” workflows where appropriate. Director of Creative Operations

2. Tech Stack Strategy & Consolidation

  • Own the roadmap for a consolidated project and resource management backbone (e.g., Asana, Monday.com, 10,000ft/Resource Guru).
  • Oversee integration between PSA (Professional Services Automation), asset management (DAM/MAM), and financial systems so data flows cleanly from Job Start → Delivery → Invoice.
  • Ensure the tech stack is optimized for high-volume AV production (Adobe suite, Frame.io, high-speed storage, transcoding pipelines, etc.). Director of Creative Operations

3. Resource Management & Margin Optimization

  • Shift the organization from reactive staffing to predictive capacity planning using clear utilization and forecasting metrics.
  • Partner with Finance to define and track Effective Hourly Rate (EHR), utilization, and other operational KPIs.
  • Identify automation opportunities (e.g., ingestion, transcoding, archiving, basic versioning) to free creative teams for higher-value, billable work. Director of Creative Operations

4. AI Innovation & Governance

  • Evaluate, pilot, and integrate AI-driven tools (e.g., generative fill, automated tagging, voice tools, script analysis, LLM-based efficiencies) to enhance speed and consistency.
  • Build and enforce AI usage protocols that strictly comply with studio, streaming, and gaming partner guidelines—ensuring IP and data are fully protected. Director of Creative Operations

5. Change Management, Training & Culture

  • Act as a change champion, translating new tools and processes into language and workflows that resonate with editors, motion designers, and producers.
  • Develop training programs, playbooks, and onboarding documentation for new and existing staff.
  • Create feedback loops to continuously refine processes and increase adoption across the organization. Director of Creative Operations

Qualifications:

Experience & Background

  • 7 years in Creative Operations, Post-Production Management, Studio Operations, or similar roles within an agency, post house, or entertainment vendor environment.
  • Proven experience managing workflows and operations for teams of 100 staff across multiple functions. Director of Creative Operations

Domain Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of AV post-production workflows (offline vs online/finishing, deliverables, versioning, and tight broadcast/streaming deadlines).

  • Strong familiarity with Project / resource management tools : Asana, Monday.com, 10,000ft/Resource Guru or similar

  • Collaboration / review: Frame.io or similar

  • Asset management: Iconik or other DAM/MAM platforms

Working knowledge of AI tools and concepts (e.g., Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, LLM-based tools) and IP/legal implications for third-party content. Director of Creative Operations

Business & Soft Skills

  • Solid understanding of agency economics: margins, utilization, billable vs non-billable, and how operational choices affect profitability. Director of Creative Operations
  • Ability to introduce structure into a fluid, creative culture without stifling the work.
  • Strong communication and diplomacy skills: able to navigate between creative teams, leadership, IT, and Finance.
  • Strategic mindset: capable of balancing short-term fire-fighting (e.g., today’s server crisis) with a 2–3 year operational roadmap. Director of Creative Operations

Compensation & Work Modality

  • Salary Range (Target): $180,000 – $225,000 base, depending on experience, plus potential bonus and comprehensive benefits.
  • Location: Los Angeles, CA.
  • Work Modality: Hybrid, expected onsite presence approximately 3 days per week with flexibility for remote work on remaining days; periodic collaboration with UK teams (early/late meetings as needed).
